Vecinos de Carvajal denuncian problemas de inseguridad: PP muestra su preocupación

The spokesperson for the Popular Party (PP) in the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Jimena Delgado, expressed her «regret and helplessness» this Monday following the public complaint from the residents of Carvajal Street, who have reported «episodes of insecurity and unhealthiness» at their doorstep.

Delgado stated that the residents have organized themselves «fed up with the municipal government (PSOE, Podemos, and NC) turning a deaf ear» to their complaints, which are the «logical consequence of years of crime and drug trafficking» in the Arenales neighborhood, «just a few meters from where this new complaint is now arising.»

Additionally, as reported by the PP in a press release, she mentioned that «not addressing the problems and not taking a tough stance against those who disrupt coexistence and alter the city’s life leads to these results,» emphasizing that «marginality, if not tackled, spreads like an oil stain.»

Furthermore, the PP leader in the capital of Gran Canaria expressed her «perplexity» at the response the residents received from municipal authorities, as they «evade all responsibility» on the matter and shift it to Endesa due to the cover of a transformer station where people spend the night.

In connection with this, Delgado criticized the municipal government for responding by «shaking off the problems if they are not good or shifting them to Endesa» or «saying it is a private area and, therefore, they have no jurisdiction.»

«Anything that affects the residents’ lives and occurs in public spaces is the responsibility of the city council. Even more so when the reality for these residents is that the incapacity of successive socialist governments has allowed the serious deterioration of the Arenales neighborhood to now be felt in the vicinity. Walking on streets like Matías Padrón, Ángel Guimerá, Pamochamoso, or now Carvajal is impossible at certain times of the day,» added Delgado-Taramona.

The Popular Party will meet in the coming days with the affected residents, who have shown their «determination» to use «all» political, media, and administrative tools to, to the best of their abilities, «contribute to halting the deterioration of the city center.»

Delgado pointed out that «it is paradoxical that less than 100 meters from the Government Presidency, on Molino de Viento Street, in the section before Carvajal, there is a permanent sale of drugs and individuals dependent on these substances lying on the ground after consuming.»

«The residents of Arenales can’t take it anymore, and those of Luis Doreste Silva, Carvajal, and the rear of Avenida Marítima, more of the same. And if we don’t take action, the list of neighboring neighborhoods affected by this marginality will continue to grow. It is urgent to make decisions in collaboration with the Government Delegation, and the residents have already told us that the District Councilor has known about this for some time and has done nothing,» she lamented.

This, she said, is happening in a «deteriorating government» that «has lost touch with the city and is incapable» of addressing problems with a «tremendous» impact on people’s lives, so she urged Darias to dedicate the remaining two years to «solving these types of issues and abandoning megalomaniac projects that only benefit herself.»
