Salvamento Marítimo escolta cayuco a Los Cristianos (Tenerife)

Salvamento Marítimo is escorting a cayuco to the port of Los Cristianos, in Tenerife, this Sunday. The cayuco was located this afternoon by a ferry around 16:35 hours. The number of migrants on board the boat is still unknown, but it is estimated to arrive on land around 19:00 hours.

The state agency reported in a statement that it was the Benchijigua Express ferry that alerted the Maritime Rescue Center in Tenerife that they believed they had seen a cayuco, about 13 miles from Los Cristianos.

Nearby and in the opposite direction was the Volcán de Teno ferry, which diverted to the indicated position, where minutes later confirmed the presence of the cayuco and reported that it was following it.

Meanwhile, Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the Salvamar Alpheratz, which at 17:25 hours confirmed to the ferry that it had sighted the cayuco, told it to resume its course to its destination, Los Cristianos, and proceeded to escort the cayuco to the port.
