Mejoras en el Parque Arqueológico El Tendal de La Palma para potenciar el conocimiento histórico de la Isla.
The island president and the Tourism councillor have visited the infrastructure to analyze necessary improvements to continue enhancing the interest of residents and visitors in the tourist interpretation centers
The Cabildo of La Palma is committed to improving the tourist interpretation centers on the Island, with a special focus on the El Tendal Archaeological Park in San Andrés and Sauces, whose central point is a huge natural cave where about twenty Benahoaritas lived for a thousand years.
The island president, Sergio Rodríguez, and the Tourism councillor, Raquel Rebollo, have visited the center’s facilities to firsthand assess the main needs of the space and work on a project that highlights its importance.
«The tourist interpretation centers of La Palma, consisting of the El Tendal Archaeological Park, the Roque de los Muchachos Visitor Center, and the Caños de Fuego Volcanic Caves Interpretation Center, are essential for deepening our knowledge of the island in its different areas, such as our ancestors, the work carried out at the Observatory, or the history of the San Juan and Tajogaite volcano,» explains the president.
Sergio Rodríguez emphasizes that the government team is committed to improving these three infrastructures, with El Tendal being the most in need. «We will work to make this space more attractive, both from the main road, to enhance the interest of residents and visitors, and internally, linking the center to the close relationship it has with the area it is located in, on one hand to the island’s first inhabitants, and on the other hand to water, an essential resource especially in this place,» detailed the president.
On her part, the Tourism councillor, Raquel Rebollo, highlighted the constant work between the different departments of the Cabildo to improve the conditions of the three tourist interpretation centers on the Island, with El Tendal being key due to its archaeological relevance, having both the cave where Benahoaritas lived and the exhibition room where different research works are discussed and original pieces are displayed.
Rebollo explained that the proposal for the renovation of the different areas of the center aims to give them a better use and recognize the value of this space. «The actions will focus on renovating the spaces from an interior design perspective, seeking better functionality, greater aesthetics, and a more efficient use of the different areas,» emphasized the councillor.
Improvements proposed in El Tendal
The Cabildo of La Palma seeks to carry out a series of interventions on the center’s facade, which is currently a blind stone-covered wall. In this sense, the project proposes to give it visibility through large format figures integrated with said door and wall, figures related to the content of the space.
In addition, it is important to provide information to visitors about the facilities through the creation of a directory of the center with signs and fresh images that showcase what the archaeological park encompasses.
Externally, there will also be an effort to create an environment where the visitor immerses themselves in the indigenous world as soon as they enter, with a simulation of a cave space, good lighting with LED lamps, colorful rock formations, ambient sound, an image of moving water at the back of the cave, and a vegetation area.
Regarding the interior, the approach revolves around creating a comfortable and attractive space with suitable chairs, a large playback screen, and continuing with the cave-like structures used on the ramp for this room. This same style will be projected on the ceiling, floor, glass walls, walls, and existing furniture, such as the urns-display cases, touch tables, and new structures to be built.
All of this will be reinforced with the update of the panel texts and the change of their graphic design.
