Llegan más de 190 migrantes en cayucos a El Hierro y Gran Canaria
Salvamento Marítimo has proceeded to rescue and escort more than 190 migrant people aboard four cayucos near the coasts of the islands of El Hierro and Gran Canaria during this Saturday, as reported by the state agency.
Minutes before 10:00 hours, it was reported that a cayuco was approaching 3 miles from Anfi del mar, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Subsequently, maritime controllers from the Salvamento Marítimo center in Las Palmas mobilized the salvamar Macondo, which at 10:06 hours confirmed that it had it in sight and that it was stopped.
In this way, the approach maneuver was initiated, and 52 males on board, including a minor of Sub-Saharan origin, were rescued and directed towards Arguineguín.
THREE CAYUCOS TO EL HIERRO
Around 10:05 hours, the Civil Guard informed the Salvamento Marítimo center in Tenerife of a radar echo, a possible cayuco or patera, 8 miles off the coast of El Hierro.
Thus, the salvamar Acrux was mobilized, which headed to the position and located another cayuco, with more than 70 people on board, approximately of Sub-Saharan origin.
However, while still in search of this last cayuco, the salvamar Acrux escorted it to La Restinga, the Civil Guard reported a second echo, this time about 11 miles from La Restinga.
The maritime controllers mobilized the salvamar Adhara. Around 11:10 hours, it sighted the cayuco, with more than 70 people on board, as estimated, and proceeded to accompany it to La Restinga.
Around 16:31 hours this Saturday, the skipper of the salvamar Acrux reported to the Salvamento Marítimo center in Tenerife the sighting of a third cayuco, less than a mile from La Restinga.
Although the specific number of people on board this last vessel has not yet been disclosed, it is known that the Salvamar is currently escorting them to port.
