La rentabilidad de Fuerteventura aumenta un 7,4% en lo que va de año
Marlene Figueroa: “The true purpose of tourism is to improve the quality of life of the island’s society, and not the other way around, that’s why we advocate for purposeful, responsible, inclusive, and regenerative tourism, it is crucial to balance costs and impacts with benefits.”
The British newspaper «The Independent» recommends Fuerteventura as one of the 8 best destinations to spend Easter holidays
The tourist destination of Fuerteventura ranks sixth in the Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) index, with a 7.4% increase in the first two months of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching an average daily room income of €96, according to the ranking published in the 2025 Tourism Outlook Report by Exceltur, based on data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The daily spending of tourists in Fuerteventura, including accommodation, transportation, car rentals, destination activities, restaurants, and other expenses, averages €175, a figure that has been steadily increasing and allowed for a historic revenue of €3.097 billion in 2024. Occupancy for Easter is around the same as the previous year, and forecasts for the summer are following a similar trend.
Island president, Lola García, emphasizes the need to work towards a quality tourism model for Fuerteventura, where the benefits generated by tourism impact the island and improve the quality of life for the local population.
The Tourism Councillor of the Fuerteventura Council, Marlene Figueroa, has stated that in the current scenario of uncertainty and profound global changes, both geostrategic and economic, and still awaiting the calculation of the impact on the tourism industry and the responses from families and businesses, tourist demand is currently showing great strength in this first quarter of 2025. Therefore, the focus should be on strengthening the destination, improving the quality and competitiveness of our offerings, infrastructure, and facilities, and especially resolving the imbalances and conflicts between employers and workers in the sector.
Marlene Figueroa wants to highlight that tourism has a significant capacity to create value in the local economy and contributes to the well-being and improvement of the quality of life of the island’s resident population. However, it is essential to find a balance between the costs and impacts involved and where the benefits are truly going. In this sense, from the Tourism Department of the Island Council, we advocate for purposeful, responsible, inclusive, and regenerative tourism, with the aim of increasing tourist spending in the destination.
Fuerteventura was mentioned this week as one of the eight most recommended destinations to visit this upcoming Easter by the British digital newspaper “The Independent”, the second most-read British newspaper with a monthly audience of over 19 million readers. Similarly, the German tourism portal Holiday Check also highlighted the Playa de la Concha in El Cotillo (La Oliva, Fuerteventura) this week, emphasizing all its services and attractions. This demonstrates that the island is a competitive and well-positioned destination.
The Fuerteventura Tourism Board, as part of its promotional activities, participated this week in the International Routes Europe Fair, ensuring regular air connectivity for summer 2025, winter 2025/26, and summer 2026. This planning effort is crucial for the medium-term stability of tourism on the island, which will undoubtedly lead to an improvement in the working conditions of the sector’s employees.
