A 70-year-old man has died and another, 65 years old, has been moderately affected after being rescued with signs of drowning in the bathing area of San Cristóbal, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as reported by the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security of 112 of the Canary Islands.
The incident occurred around 12:40 when the 112 received an alert informing that several people had been rescued from the sea in the mentioned area and needed assistance.
Until the arrival of the resources at the scene, a coordinating nurse from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) who answered one of the alert calls confirmed, through questioning, that one of the affected individuals was in cardiorespiratory arrest, so he gave instructions via tele-assistance to perform resuscitation maneuvers.
Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, the SUC personnel, dispatched in five ambulances and a Rapid Intervention Vehicle (VIR), continued to perform advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers without success, only being able to confirm the death of the 70-year-old man.
They also assisted the second affected person, who showed signs of moderately incomplete drowning, and was transferred to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
At the scene of the incident, officers from the Local Police and the National Police also arrived, securing the area and collaborating with the rest of the emergency resources.
