The Laguna City Council’s Department of Culture has announced this Wednesday the program of ‘La Laguna Titiritando’, part of the International Puppet Festival of the Canary Islands 2025, featuring a dozen companies from Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Hungary. Between next Monday, April 7, and Saturday, the 12th, these companies will offer children’s, family, and adult shows at the Plaza del Adelantado.

The press conference was attended by the Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the Councilor of Culture of La Laguna and president of the Autonomous Body of Musical Activities (OAAM), Adrián del Castillo, and the representative of the Association for the Promotion of Visual and Performing Arts of Los Realejos (AFAVER), Francisco Brito Castilla.

Adrián del Castillo stated that the festival aims to bring the art of puppetry closer to the public, «a universal language capable of moving and conveying values, both to the youngest members of the household and to the rest of the family.» In addition, del Castillo praised the program, adapted for all audiences, hoping that the municipality «will be filled with magic, fun, and teachings» for six days.

On his part, Francisco Brito Castilla thanked the «incredible boost» given by the La Laguna City Council to this project, which resurfaces after nine years of inactivity. «The promotion they have done is very important for everything to work,» he said. He also highlighted the work done to bring companies from Italy, France, the Netherlands, Greece, Hungary, and Germany. «They have been expressly selected to showcase the variety of puppets,» he explained.

The first three days of ‘La Laguna Titiritando’ will be dedicated to schoolchildren, while from Thursday to Saturday, the general public can enjoy a wide range of proposals for free.

In this regard, on Thursday, the 10th, it will be the turn of the Spanish company Pelele and the Italian Fabiola, who will perform in the central square at 17:30 and 18:30 hours, respectively. The following day, with the same schedule, The Fifth Wheel (Germany) and The Budapest Marionettes (Hungary) will entertain the audience.

The program for Saturday will start at 12:30 with a parade between the Plaza del Cristo and the Plaza del Adelantado by Miartefactor. At its conclusion, puppet construction workshops will be offered.

From 12:30 onwards, interested individuals can enjoy the art of Le chat fou (France) and Lejo (The Netherlands). That same afternoon, starting at 17:00, the Spanish company Ymedio Teatro and the artist Tony Zafra will close the activities at the Plaza del Adelantado.

The Festival will culminate at 20:15 in the Crystal Room of the Santo Domingo convent with the performance of Merlin Teatro (Greece). Entry will also be free until full capacity is reached.
