Amplia agenda para celebrar el Día del Orgullo en La Laguna
The municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna will once again commemorate LGBTIQA+ Pride Day with an ambitious and diverse program, aimed at reaffirming the commitment of the municipality and the City Council to fundamental values such as tolerance, equality, inclusion, and respect for diversity, promoting a full and discrimination-free coexistence in all areas of social, cultural, and civic life.
The councilor for Equality and LGBTI of the local Corporation, Dailos González, was responsible for presenting this agenda, under the slogan ‘A range of rights for all people’, at an event that featured the participation of activist Meritxell Salazar (from the Diversas association); the director of the show The House of Show, Cristian Velasco; and the drag queen Aythami Legendary.
The councilor highlighted the role that social groups have played and continue to play in this struggle for rights «which is an essential process that involves the sincere will to transform attitudes and structures to build a society where each person can live with freedom and dignity, without fear of being who they are.»
He also mentioned that the calendar of activities will start on June 7th and will extend until the month of July, «a month full of cultural, artistic, and advocacy proposals that seek to make diversity visible and promote a more inclusive society. Throughout this period, La Laguna will become a space for meeting, reflection, and celebration, with activities designed for all audiences and focused on defending LGBTIQA+ rights.»
‘La Laguna Proud 2025’ Program
One of the highlights of this program will be the event The House of Show, on July 7th, an event that Cristian Velasco described as «a safe space to express ourselves through fashion and art, as well as to advocate that culture should be inclusive, diverse, and festive.» In turn, one of the artists of the show, Aythami Legendary, encouraged «the people of La Laguna and Tenerife to be part of this experience by showing their best version, without any prejudices.»
On June 14th, one of the central days of the program will take place. At 9:00 am, the distribution of t-shirts for the II Race against LGBTI+phobia will begin, starting at 10:00 am from Viana street and ending at the City Council arches. That same morning, the Adelantado square will host the Fair of Associations and Entities of the community, with workshops and dynamic activities.
As night falls, the square will turn into a grand stage with the concert ‘La Laguna Proud’ (8:00 pm), presented by Marcela Kaufmann and Joel Angelino, featuring performances by Mel Omana, Roser, and Drag Nilo, among other prominent figures. The party will continue at 10:00 pm at Espacio Aguere, with a special edition of the Pride show QUEENS by Alex Mercurio.
Furthermore, social activist Meritxell Salazar explained during her intervention that spaces for reflection will be created, such as the conference series ‘From dictatorship to dignity: Trans experience in first person’ (June 10th), or ‘Intersex realities: experiences, rights, and recognitions’ (June 17th), as well as workshops on mental health and rights for migrant LGBTIQA+ individuals.
Salazar also thanked the willingness of the City Council of La Laguna «to create this program in consensus with social groups, never turning our backs on us.»
Regarding the cultural sphere, various proposals will be offered, such as the performance of the play ‘Strawberry and Chocolate’, which will take place on June 8th at the Teatro Unión Tejina, as well as two film discussions centered on emblematic movies: Hedwig and the Angry Inch (June 12th) and Burning Bonds (June 19th), both at Multicines Tenerife.
