Campaña universitaria de donación de sangre en Canarias para fomentar la solidaridad

The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy, under the Canarian Health Service (SCS), has started the university blood donation campaign on Monday, March 10. This campaign, in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the University of La Laguna (ULL), will run until April 2, visiting various faculties and university schools to promote blood donation among the university community and ensure the supply of Canarian hospitals, as reported by the regional Ministry of Health in a press release.

The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy of the SCS has expressed its gratitude to students, rectors, teachers, administrative and service staff, and all members of the university community for their involvement in this initiative, which annually «demonstrates the commitment and solidarity of the university environment with the healthcare system.»

To donate blood, individuals must be between 18 and 65 years old (up to 60 for first-time donors), weigh over 50 kilograms, be in good general health, and not be pregnant. Any questions can be answered by calling the toll-free donor helpline at 900 234 061.

During the first week, donations can be made at the Campus of San Cristóbal in Tenerife, at the Faculty of Health Sciences, with extraction hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 09:00 to 14:00, and also on Thursday from 14:45 to 20:00, and Friday from 09:00 to 13:30.

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, specifically at the Tafira Campus, donations can be made at the Faculty of Marine Sciences on Monday and Tuesday, March 10 and 11, from 09:30 to 19:30 and 09:30 to 13:45, respectively. Similarly, donations can be made at the School of Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering on March 12, from 09:00 to 13:45.

On the island of Fuerteventura, donations can be made at the School of Nursing on March 10 and 11 from 16:00 to 21:00, with hours on Wednesday from 09:00 to 14:00, and Thursday from 08:45 to 13:30.

For the second week of the campaign, mobile units are scheduled to visit the Faculty of Economics, Business, and Tourism of the ULPGC on March 17, 18, and 19, with donation hours on Monday from 09:30 to 19:45, Tuesday from 09:00 to 19:45, and Wednesday from 09:00 to 19:30. Another mobile unit will be located at the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the ULPGC to serve donors on Monday from 09:30 to 19:45 and Tuesday from 09:45 to 19:30. Subsequently, teams will move to the School of Industrial and Civil Engineering on Wednesday and Thursday, March 19 and 20, from 09:00 to 19:45.

During the third week, a team will be inside the School of Architecture (classroom four) at the Tafira campus on Monday, March 24, and Tuesday, March 25. On the latter day, they will also visit the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports. Finally, on March 26 and 27, the mobile unit will move to the Obelisco Campus to serve all students, teachers, and administrative staff of the School of Education Sciences and the Humanities Building.

In Lanzarote, at the School of Nursing (associated with the Lanzarote Tourism University School – EUTL), donations can be made from Wednesday, March 26, to Friday, March 28.

For the last week of the campaign at the ULPGC, the Mountain Cardones Campus will be visited on March 31 and April 1.

As for the ULL, the blood donation promotion campaign will begin on March 17, with a mobile unit visiting the Anchieta Campus to serve students, teachers, and administrative staff of the Faculty of Pharmacy from Monday, March 17, to Wednesday, March 19. Additionally, at the Faculty of Sciences, Physics Section, and Mathematics Section, hours will be from 9:30 to 19:45 (closing at 19:30 on Wednesday).

Simultaneously, another mobile unit will attend donors at the Guajara Campus, specifically at the Faculty of Law, from Monday to Wednesday, with hours from 08:45 to 20:00, except closing at 19:45 on Wednesday.

For the final week of the campaign, a team will move to the Central Campus, staying on March 31 and Tuesday, April 1, at the Central Building, where the mobile unit will be located in the parking area to serve donors starting from 09:30, and on Wednesday, April 2, the mobile unit will move to Heraclio Sánchez Street (opposite the Lemus Bookstore) to serve university students.
