The aim is to raise awareness and gather contributions on the expansion of the marine area of the Biosphere Reserve
The Biosphere Reserve of Fuerteventura and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are offering the workshop ‘Biology and Fisheries Management for Non-Scientists’ on June 3rd at the Insular Youth Center (Puerto del Rosario). The purpose is to inform and collect contributions on the expansion of the marine area of the Biosphere Reserve. This activity is part of the Amplía Project for the diagnosis of the state of the marine biological resources in the Eastern Canary Islands in order to expand the marine area of their Biosphere Reserves.
The project aims to conduct a detailed review and update of the available biological, ecological, socio-economic, and fisheries information. Its ultimate goal is to propose short, medium, and long-term management strategies in the context of climate change, to achieve participatory co-management under the umbrella of the Biosphere Reserves of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote.
This project, granted to the ULPGC, is funded by Next Generation funds from the European Union, within the call for grants for financing actions in Biosphere Reserves under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
