Noticias del Gobierno de Canarias sobre apoyo a la producción láctea local
These lines of action support both dairy production in cattle, goat, and sheep farms, as well as the production of products in the industry or artisanal cheese dairies from local milk
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the calls for aid aimed at local origin dairy production and industry, both for cattle (action III.4) and for goat and sheep (action III.6) for a total amount of 16,704,700 euros, within the framework of the Community Support Program for Agricultural Productions in the Canary Islands (POSEI) and corresponding to the 2025 campaign.
Regarding this support line, the head of the department, Narvay Quintero, highlighted the importance of these measures to promote the production and consumption of locally sourced milk, as well as the commitment made by the Government since the previous campaign to make payments semi-annually instead of annually, «in order to facilitate the economic management of our farmers’ operations.»
Within the line aimed at local origin goat and sheep dairy production, there is a provision of 8,534,600 euros in aid to the goat-sheep milk producer (sub-action III 6.2) associated with an amount of 283 euros per ton of whole goat and sheep milk produced by the applicant and delivered to the dairy industry, a figure that rises to 293 euros for producers whose farms are located on the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, La Palma, or El Hierro.
Furthermore, a total aid allocation of 2,691,784 euros is earmarked for local origin cattle dairy production (sub-action III.4.2), at a rate of 123 euros per ton of whole cow milk intended for product manufacturing in the dairy industry, although in the case of farms located on non-capital islands, this amount will be raised to 133 euros.
As part of these measures, a 10% supplement will be granted to those benefiting from subsidies for the installation of young farmers and breeders from the Rural Development Program (PDR) 2014-2020 or the Strategic Plan for the CAP (PEPAC) 2023-2027 in the current campaign or any of the previous four, and who maintain this status in the campaign for which the aid is provided in this call.
Regarding the dairy industry and artisanal cheese dairies associated with goat and sheep (sub-action III 6.1), the total amount is 1,920,000 euros, distributed in aid of 66 euros per ton of whole goat and sheep milk purchased from local farmers.
Finally, the aid for the dairy industry associated with cattle (sub-action III 4.1) receives a total allocation of 3,558,316 euros associated with the recognition of a unit amount of 132 euros per ton of whole cow milk of local origin intended for product manufacturing.
For the quantities of milk acquired from farmers and used in the production of aid-eligible products between January 1 and June 30, 2025, applications must be submitted by August 1, 2025 through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands. During the 25 days following the end of this period, the submitted applications will be assessed, with a 1% reduction in aid for each business day elapsed.
