The popular event moves to the Puerto del Rosario fairground this year to improve its layout and accommodate a larger audience, expanding the dance area and increasing the number of tables to 400

The ‘Mayo 100% Canarias’ program enhances and promotes the customs and traditions of the Canarian people, especially reaching out to the younger audience

The traditional Baile de Taifas, organized by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, changes location this year, aiming to enhance the space for its celebration, accommodate a larger audience, and increase the number of tables available to attendees. This was announced by the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura during the presentation of the Gran Baile de Taifas and the ‘Mayo 100% Canarias’ program, where the dance is featured, accompanied by the Culture Councilor, Rayco León, and the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera.

Lola García pointed out, «The Baile de Taifas incorporates important novelties this year, with the intention of giving the prominence that the biggest event in the entire Archipelago for the month of May deserves, which has a significant impact on the population due to its high attendance, but also for its development respecting the traditions both musically and with traditional attire.

In this way, the Baile de Taifas moves to the Puerto del Rosario fairground, which will improve accessibility and parking, also expanding the space by an additional 5,000 square meters compared to previous editions, allowing for an increase in the dance area and the number of tables. As requested by the population year after year, indicated the Culture Councilor, Rayco León, the number of tables increases from 257 to 400, and the space between them is increased for the comfort of attendees. The date to request tables for the Gran Baile de Taifas will be announced soon.

The layout is also improved, creating an immersive environment where everyone will be part of the dance itself. The change of venue brings several advantages. Once the dance is held, it will be evaluated if this venue will be maintained for future editions.

All tables are located in a single area, the number of kiosks is also increased, and parallel activities such as Canarian gastronomy showcooking areas, traditional attire exhibition, and photocalls will be held.

Both the president and the island councilor invited everyone to attend the Baile de Taifas on May 29 in this renewed atmosphere, «a leap in quality and improvement that we must thank the City Council of Puerto del Rosario for providing the space and collaborating in its organization.»

On the other hand, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, congratulated the Cabildo de Fuerteventura for the cultural agenda it offers during the month of May, «reflecting the singularities of the Canary Islands and Fuerteventura.» De Vera highlighted the collaboration between the Cabildo and the City Council to have a Gran Baile de Taifas, «which serves as the culmination of this month of May and comes with great innovations this year.»

Mayo 100% Canarias

During the presentation, Councilor Rayco León detailed the rest of the activities of ‘Mayo 100% Canarias’, a program designed to enhance and promote the customs and traditions of the Canarian people, especially targeting the younger audience, and which can be consulted soon at culturafuerteventura.es.

According to Councilor Rayco León, «we will have theater, Canarian authors and literature, heritage visits, as well as traditional dance workshops in collaboration with folk groups such as Maxorata and Tetir, in addition to an exhibition on traditional attire, also by the groups, which will be taken to the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura and later to the Gran Tarajal Library.» Work will also be done with students to introduce them to different elements of Canarian identity. A very extensive program, driven by the Culture Department, which encompasses different services such as Cultural Heritage, the Insular Library Center, the Juan Ismael Art Center, or the Insular Library Center, as well as activities from other areas of the Cabildo such as Youth or Sports.
