Celebración exitosa de la Lanzarote Wine Run 2025

The Cabildo de Lanzarote celebrates the success of the thirteenth edition of the Lanzarote Wine Run, an event that once again brought together sports, viticultural heritage, and environmental commitment in the heart of the protected landscape of La Geria, recently recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (SIPAM) by the FAO.

Both President Oswaldo Betancort and the Councillor for Landscape and Food Sovereignty, Samuel Martín, have emphasized the «pride» of continuing to work to conserve and enhance this unique space in the world, and have thanked all participants for their «civility and cordiality.»

Thousands of people gathered this weekend in Uga (Yaiza) to participate in or support this event, which took place once again under the motto «Discover. Enjoy. Respect.» President Oswaldo Betancort participated in the 12-kilometer walk, alongside members of the Government group such as Marci Acuña, Ascensión Toledo, and Juan Monzón, while Councillor Domingo Cejas ran in the short race, reaffirming institutional support for an initiative that has become a hallmark of the island.

The medal ceremony for participants as they crossed the finish line in Uga was conducted by Councillor Samuel Martín, along with Yaiza City Councillor Daniel Medina and the President of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin of Lanzarote Wine, Jorge Rodríguez, on behalf of the three main organizing entities. The presence of the young members of the Asociación Creciendo Lanzarote, who assisted the authorities in awarding medals to the many men and women from Lanzarote who enjoy and respect La Geria, is also noteworthy.

Victories for Aroa Merino, Yerove Rodríguez, Carlos Alfageme, and Anya Lamprecht

The Wine Run 2025 crowned Yerove Rodríguez as the overall winner of the long race (23 km), with a time of 1:26:09, followed by Albi Cedrés (1:27:03) and Rayco Hernández (1:30:22). In the women’s category, Aroa Merino once again shined with a time of 1:39:12, surpassing Sandra Ortiz (1:57:51) and Cristina Molina (1:59:55).

In the 12 km category, Carlos Alfageme (0:47:27) was the fastest, closely followed by Adrián González (0:47:40) and Andrés de León (0:48:49). In the women’s division, the victory went to Anya Lamprecht (0:58:28), followed by Cristina Polanco (0:57:58) and Carmen Delia Luz (0:59:57).

As is tradition, the winners were awarded their weight in wine, a symbolic and celebrated gift that honors the essence of the event. Another symbolic moment was the presence of Blanca, a 10-year-old camel that accompanied part of the route as a tribute to the men and women – and their camels – who have shaped the unique landscape of La Geria for centuries.

Likewise, the Uga fairground hosted the Wine Festival throughout the weekend, featuring over 90 varieties of wines from wineries affiliated with the Denomination of Origin Lanzarote. At their stands, participants were able to explore and taste a wide range of local viticultural richness.

Inclusion

On the other hand, the participation of people with reduced mobility was made possible thanks to the Joëlette modality, promoted by the Department of Social Welfare and Inclusion, led by Marci Acuña. The event once again carried the Diver seal, ensuring full accessibility in all spaces.

«Lanzarote Wine Run is not just a race, but a project that reflects the sustainable island model promoted by the Cabildo, funding conservation and employment projects with NGOs such as ADISLAN and the Asociación Creciendo,» clarified Councillor Samuel Martín. He thanked all co-organizing entities, the technical team, security and civil protection forces, and volunteers for their work, stating that they made it possible for this Wine Run 2025 to be carried out successfully, safely, and with a good collective spirit.
