The event, which will be hosted by the Canary Islands model and presenter Jose Toledo, is consolidated in a new edition that highlights the creative and textile sector, strengthening the structures of a growing fashion community on the island of La Palma.
The Society for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development of the Island of La Palma (SODEPAL), with the clear objective of creating a fashion community aligned with the Isla Bonita Moda project, as well as promoting the emergence of new talents in the textile and creative field of the island, celebrates this Thursday, April 24, 2025, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Casa de la Cultura Braulio Martín Hernández in El Paso, the award ceremony «Isla Bonita Moda to the Talent Made In La Palma», in a new edition that recognizes the talent of the fashion creatives on the island in eight main categories: fashion brand, photography and runway model, makeup professionals, hair professionals, fashion photography and audiovisual creation, content creators, and sustainable fashion projects.
In addition, a «Honorary Talent Award» will be granted outside the competition after its approval by the Board of Directors of SODEPAL, which in this second edition pays tribute to the business career of Mr. Pedro Ferreiro Rodríguez (native of Los Llanos de Aridane), better known in the island of La Palma as «Pedro Orley». A well-deserved tribute to a figure whose talent and business vision leave an indelible mark in the field of author jewelry on the island of La Palma.
Jewelry Orley was founded by Pedro Ferreiro Rodríguez in late 1964, being a pioneer in this sector and the first jewelry store to open its doors in Los Llanos de Aridane and still active. However, the history of the Ferreiro family in La Palma dates back even further, to the 1950s, when Manuel Ferreiro Bouzas, Pedro’s father, established himself in La Palma as a traveling salesman.
Currently, the third generation of the family is represented by Nancy Ferreiro Fernández, who continues the family business from Jewelry Orley.
The Ferreiro family remains the oldest in the Canary Islands in the jewelry sector, with their descendants established not only in La Palma but also in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Pedro Ferreiro Rodríguez has practiced a business philosophy based on honesty and customer service, visiting customers at home in all the towns of the island with the difficulties that this entailed in those times when communications were not as they are today. The idea that «the customer has to come back» highlights the importance of loyalty and long-term satisfaction, fundamental values for any serious and committed merchant. This approach has allowed him to build a solid and reliable reputation with a dedication to the craft and an ability to adapt to market changes and current trends.
With modern facilities and the representation of important brands, he has managed to stand out in the field of jewelry, being a reference within the commercial sector of the island and an example of successful generational succession, through his children Nancy and Pedro Ferreiro with stores in Los Llanos de Aridane and Santa Cruz de La Palma.
As for the jury appointed to evaluate the categories in the competition, it is composed entirely of the Guarantees Committee of Isla Bonita Moda: Miriam Perestelo (Councilor for Economic Promotion of the Island Council of La Palma and CEO of Sodepal) acting as president, with a voice but without a vote; Andrés Acosta (Fashion Designer and Artistic, Commercial, and Expansion Director of Isla Bonita Moda); Mónica Reverón and Verania Sánchez (Manolo Blahnik School of Art); also Jose Toledo (TV Presenter and Model); Marta Ortiz (Model and Entrepreneur); Daniela Gutiérrez (Creative Director and Entrepreneur); and Jonathan Díaz (Designer and member representing the Isla Bonita Moda collective on the Guarantees Committee).
On the occasion of the celebration, Isla Bonita Moda has entrusted the talent of the jeweler, gemologist, and designer from La Palma, Pedro Ferreiro – a member of the Isla Bonita Moda collective – for the design and production of the award that all the winners will receive this Thursday. A creation that pays tribute to the craftsmanship of La Palma, an ancestral cradle of great artisans but especially to silk, and to the Hilanderas de El Paso – also members of the Isla Bonita Moda program – the only stronghold in Europe to preserve the manual process. For this, Ferreiro starts from the «spindle or shuttle» as the central element of inspiration, through a story in which for the creator himself, «talent is the manifestation of emotional intelligence, an innate aptitude or ability to successfully develop the capacity to create and express our emotions through art.»
This is a free event with limited seating. At the end of the event, Isla Bonita Moda will offer a cocktail at the Museum of Silk in El Paso.
The Councilor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal, Miriam Perestelo, affirms that «from Sodepal, we continue to firmly support the consolidation of a creative sector that is already a hallmark of our island. The Isla Bonita Moda Awards to the Talent Made in La Palma not only showcase the work of our designers, artisans, and professionals in the field of fashion, but also reinforce La Palma’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and local talent. It is exciting to see how this project grows year after year, becoming a driver of economic and cultural development.»
