El PP de Las Palmas pide a Darias que se pronuncie sobre expropiación de viviendas en Las Torres

La spokesperson of the PP in the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Jimena Delgado, has demanded that the mayor, Carolina Darias, take a «clear stance» against the possible expropriation of more than 127 homes in the neighborhood of Las Torres «as a result of the modification of the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) promoted by her government.»

In a statement, the representative commented that the mayor will have her «last chance» this Friday to do so, as her group has submitted a motion that will be debated in the municipal Plenary in which they request the immediate suspension of the process and the commitment to initiate a new urban planning process that does not affect inhabited homes.

In this regard, the councilor is confident that this debate will serve to redirect a «profoundly erroneous» decision before it is too late, as for the PP, the neighborhood mobilization last Monday, which brought together more than five hundred people during the institutional event of Honors and Distinctions, «has made it clear that this urban planning process is overwhelmingly rejected by those affected and that its processing has generated an unprecedented social alarm.»

«The mayor has her last chance this Friday to stop a nonsense that jeopardizes more than a thousand neighbors. If she does not withdraw the process, the message she will be sending is that her government is willing to sacrifice family homes without offering any alternative to those affected,» Delgado commented.

On the other hand, she recalled that the political party has maintained a clear, firm, and consistent opposition to this modification of the General Plan from the very beginning. «Since the first details of the process emerged,» she observed, «the PP has stood by the neighbors, raised its voice in the Plenary, requested technical information, and publicly denounced the lack of transparency with which this change has been imposed.»

Additionally, she pointed out that the Popular Party was the first political group to warn of the real risk of expropriations in Las Torres, when the municipal government was still trying to downplay the extent of the process.

Nevertheless, Delgado has described it as «irresponsible» that, without the modification of the planning having been approved yet, offers from real estate agencies are already being received in the area. «Neighbors cannot continue living in fear, unable to sleep, wondering if their homes will be taken from them,» the councilor from the capital said.

«IT IS ESSENTIAL TO DISCARD THE CURRENT PROCESS»

The PP considered it «essential» to discard the current process, which lacks transparency, and to open a new urban planning process that does not affect inhabited homes, listens to the neighborhood, and seeks to improve the city without violating rights.

Delgado questioned the «complicit silence» of Unidas Sí Podemos and Nueva Canarias, who have so far avoided commenting on a decision by the PSOE that «endangers» the stability and future of hundreds of families.

Finally, the popular spokesperson announced that if the modification is not taken off the table this Friday, the PP will explore all legal avenues, including filing an administrative appeal, to stop this modification of the PGOU that they consider «harmful and socially unsustainable.»
