Guaguas Municipales has transformed the area around the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria into an «emerging and strategic» point for mobility in the city, creating a «large area» for public transport interchange that will offer, starting this Monday, June 23, redesigned routes, the addition of new lines, an increase in the number of stops, and improvements in weekend schedule coverage.
The updated scheme, under the name Connection Auditorium, aims to expand services, especially during weekends, for the lines that connect to this mobility hub and extend connections from various areas of the city: Triana (Line 17), Tomás Morales – Pío XII axis (Line 25), Tamaraceite (Line 47), Hoya Andrea and Siete Palmas (Line 45), and Guanarteme – Puerto (Line 49), as explained by Guaguas Municipales in a press release.
Among the new features starting this Monday is the addition of the new Line 65, a midnight service that will connect the Port and Tamaraceite with stops in Guanarteme, Auditorium, and the corridor of Juan Carlos I and Pintor Felo Monzón avenues, until it reaches 8 de Marzo avenue, close to the Tamaraceite Interchange, which is currently under construction and will also be its starting point.
The president of Guaguas Municipales and Mobility Councilor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, José Eduardo Ramíre, explained that these changes, particularly affecting the Auditorium area, «are part of a continuous improvement process of the public transport network that will be followed by new phases» to offer «more and better mobility options» to citizens, both for their daily commutes and weekend leisure activities.
Among the changes is Line 45, which will modify its route and now operate between Hoya Andrea and Auditorium — maintaining its stops in Siete Palmas — resulting in an increase in frequency, especially on weekends, to better adapt to leisure activities.
In this case, the location of its starting/ending stop in the Auditorium area will change to Príncipe de Asturias avenue, near the main entrance of the shopping center. The locations of the stops in this area for lines 17, 25, and 35 will also be modified.
On the other hand, Line 49 will resume its service to connect the Port and Auditorium with a frequency of ten minutes. Additionally, to facilitate transfers, Line 49 will share its location at a new Auditorium stop, on Industrial José Sánchez Peñate street, with Line 47, which will shorten its route, no longer reaching the Port, to link Tamaraceite and the Auditorium every fifteen minutes, optimizing direct routes.
Regarding express line X47, it will continue operating on weekdays as a direct connection between Tamaraceite and the Port, with stops in the Mesa y López and Santa Catalina area, although it does not specifically pass through the Auditorium, but it is a service that complements Line 47.
Additionally, express line X11, which also does not operate at the Auditorium, will once again provide service throughout the day, connecting Las Torres and the Theater.
Finally, to ensure a smooth transition and address any doubts, Guaguas Municipales has deployed street informers from Thursday, June 19, until Wednesday, the 25th. All details of the changes can also be accessed on the guaguas.com website, in the Connection Auditorium section, where basic information about the affected lines, schedules, a general map of the Auditorium area, transfer recommendations, and a frequently asked questions section are available.
