Tres jornadas divulgativas sobre riesgos naturales y protocolos de actuación en emergencias en La Laguna.

The municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna will host, between the months of September and November, three informative sessions focused on natural hazards and the appropriate protocols for action in the face of any adverse phenomenon. Another fundamental purpose of the initiative is to improve municipal management in the face of possible impacts or situations caused by these types of adversities.
Both the City Council and the Association of Volcanoes of the Canary Islands have already held the first preparatory meetings for the ‘La Laguna, naturally safe’ project. During these meetings, the City Council’s Councilor for Citizen Security, Badel Albelo, emphasized the importance of this educational proposal «which will be enriching, both for institutions and for the general public, when facing an emergency related to a natural danger. We will always act in a much more responsible and efficient manner, starting from proper training.»
For his part, Víctor Melo thanked the City Council for the trust placed in the signed agreement with the Association of Volcanoes of the Canary Islands. «Our volunteers have been altruistically promoting numerous educational actions for over 20 years for the knowledge of volcanic phenomena and other natural hazards. Now with this project, we will be able to reach more people and in a more efficient way,» explained Víctor Melo.
The program has been divided into three actions. The first one is aimed at the population and will start on September 8, under the title ‘Informative Sessions on Geological Hazards dedicated to volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and landslides’.
In October 2025, between the 21st and 24th, the ‘Informative Sessions on Meteorological Hazards I’ will take place, focusing on meteorological phenomena such as high-impact storms, electrical storms, torrential rains and floods, and sea storms. Finally, between November 25th and 28th, 2025, the ‘Informative Sessions on Meteorological Hazards II’ will be held, including extreme phenomena such as heatwaves and haze, droughts, tropical storms, and hurricanes.
These educational sessions are aimed at the general population and will be designed with a strong informative and educational character so that the knowledge offered can be accessible to all audiences. Specialized personnel from various institutions dedicated to monitoring natural phenomena such as the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) along with other renowned specialists will be involved in their delivery.
To participate, prior registration and a minimum symbolic donation of five euros to one of the non-profit organizations that carry out social work in the municipality of La Laguna will be required. Spaces will be limited until the available capacity is reached. All information and the program of the sessions will be announced soon through the website of the Association of Volcanoes of the Canary Islands: www.volcanesdecanarias.org.
