The Tourism Board reaffirms its interest in positioning the Island as a destination for congresses, meetings, and exhibitions (MICE), developing the strategy to boost Product Clubs with the aim of diversifying the tourist offer and enhancing competitiveness. Blue, nature, slow, cultural, sports, gastronomic, MICE, and other forms of tourism combine with Sun and Beach, providing a wide and enticing variety of possibilities to visitors who choose to enjoy their holidays on our Island.
The Minister of Tourism, Marlene Figueroa, has attended this week the National Assembly of the Spain Convention Bureau where the 40th Anniversary of this FEMP Organization was celebrated, and where initiatives of Innovation in the MICE segment, Tourism Experiences within the FEMP, and Inclusive MICE Destinations were shared with 65 other tourist destinations in Spain. This year, the National Assembly of the SCB was held at the Federico García Lorca Center in the city of Granada.
At this professional forum, the strengths of Fuerteventura for hosting events and conventions have been highlighted, an Island that has 71 hotels ranging from 3 to 5 stars and spaces specifically prepared for the MICE segment such as the Training and Congress Palace, the Island Auditorium, and other municipal facilities as well as emblematic outdoor environments that can be responsibly valued. The Island of Fuerteventura has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,200 participants in events and/or conference meetings, complying with the parameters and standards required by the Spain Convention Bureau (SCP).
Marlene Figueroa has pointed out that the Island is currently facing very important challenges in strategic areas that are vital for our future, and we must consider the tourism industry as an ally that has contributed and continues to contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of our island community and allows us to stimulate and energize our economy.
The Minister of Tourism wanted to emphasize that diversifying the offer towards segments such as MICE opens up new opportunities for the Island and responds to the sector’s demand as well as our commitment to sustainability, which is not in question, and represents a change in the way things are done. Figueroa wanted to clarify that society can be sure that the commitment is firm and that we are working to make the Island a better place to live and develop life projects.
The Minister of Tourism of the Island Council explains that the key lies in the quality and competitiveness of the offer of our destination, and in this sense, the Tourism Board is supporting the main events that take place on the Island, such as the Windsurf World Championship, the San Miguel Festivities, the Kite Festival in Corralejo, the Deep-Sea Fishing Opens, various high-level sports competitions, etc.
The Spain Convention Bureau, an Organization of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, is made up of 65 destinations throughout Spain that share promotion and strategies within the MICE tourism segment (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). This type of tourism has a moderately high qualitative power, generating higher revenues than leisure tourism.
