The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has published this Thursday the bases and call of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families aimed at promoting the hiring of young people with university degrees or vocational training and no work experience, in projects of public and social interest.
For the 2025 call, there is a budget of two million euros, co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus at a maximum percentage of 85%. Interested entities may apply for these grants on the electronic platform starting from Friday, June 6, and within a maximum period of 20 business days, as indicated by the regional department in a press release.
With these grants, entities will be able to cover all labor costs for one year for the contracts they make with individuals under 30 years old to develop their projects. As explained by the regional government, the aim is to promote the first work experience of young people with higher education and to boost the development of projects aimed at youth.
In the previous call, 62 young people aged 18 to 30 were hired for selected projects promoted by 32 Canary entities, focusing on education, entrepreneurship, the environment, raising awareness against gender violence, racism, breast cancer, or programs that promote the socio-labor integration of young people.
The Director General of Youth, Daniel Morales, detailed that although the process is carried out through the entities, which are the ones hiring, the selection is done through the Canarian Employment Service, so it is essential to be registered as a job seeker and in the Youth Guarantee System.
«If there is a foundation, federation, or association with an interesting project for Canarian youth that requires the hiring of young people to carry it out, we fund the project, the Government provides money to the association, and the association hires the professional needed,» he added.
REQUIREMENTS
As stated in the call’s guidelines, training contracts must be made with young people aged 18 to 30, residing in the islands, unemployed, registered as job seekers in the Canarian Employment Service, and enrolled in the National Youth Guarantee System, holding a university degree or vocational training of medium or higher level, or officially recognized equivalent titles.
Additionally, the training contract for acquiring professional experience should provide a practice matching the educational level, with a duration of 12 months for internship contracts and full-time work.
Entities, public and private foundations, associations, or federations may apply for these grants, provided they are non-profit, excluding political parties and trade unions. Each entity can carry out a maximum of two training contracts for acquiring professional experience per project.
Projects must serve a public and social interest, targeting young people in the Canary Islands aged 12 to 30 exclusively, or significantly including them (over 60%) among a plurality of target individuals, incorporating measures in the areas of action of cross-cutting youth policies detailed in Law 2/2023, of March 1, on Youth Policies of the Canary Islands.
The beneficiary entity will be responsible for selecting the individuals with whom they will enter into internship contracts, and for this purpose, they must submit a job offer for young people meeting the requirements and suitable profile to the Canarian Employment Service (SCE).
