Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is getting ready to host the national premiere of the International Ocean Film Tour Vol. 11 on Sunday, June 1, 2025, just before World Oceans Day.
This prestigious film tour, dedicated exclusively to the marine world, will then embark on a journey through more than 19 Spanish cities, starting in Malaga on June 9 and visiting cities like Barcelona (June 12) and Madrid (June 23).
With eleven years of experience, the International Ocean Film Tour has established itself as an international reference, offering a carefully selected selection of documentaries that explore aquatic adventure, environmental conservation, and human connection with the oceans. Beyond a simple screening, the tour aims to provide an immersive and inspiring experience.
This year’s edition stands out for the inclusion of ‘Nika, El Calderón Tropical’, a Canary Islands production by the scientific communicator Felipe Ravina, originally from Tenerife. This documentary not only showcases the significant population of tropical whales off the coast of Tenerife but also issues an urgent call to action for sustainable development that preserves the natural richness of the archipelago.
This year’s program, sponsored by the Foreign Promotion Society of Lanzarote, features five impactful documentaries in the original Spanish subtitled version, with an approximate duration of 150 minutes.
In addition to the screenings, the festival will feature unique protagonists, special draws, and a strong commitment to sustainability. The International Ocean Film Tour actively collaborates with numerous NGOs dedicated to marine conservation, such as Ambiente Europeo, Seashepherd, and Clean Ocean Project, allocating part of its earnings to support their valuable work.
During the screenings in each city, the festival will host special guests from the world of oceans and the environment, turning each event into a unique space for meeting, learning, and inspiring the audience.
FIVE DOCUMENTARIES.
The International Ocean Film Tour Vol. 11 presents a selection of five documentaries that explore the fascinating relationship between humans and the ocean. Among them, ‘Trilogy: the new wave’ immerses the viewer in the world of professional surfing, while ‘Row of life’ tells the inspiring solo journey of a former Paralympic athlete. Meanwhile, ‘7 Beats per minute’ pushes the boundaries of breath with a Chinese freediver in the enigmatic Blue Hole.
Sustainability and marine conservation are fundamental pillars of this edition. ‘Kelp!’ reveals the potential of kelp algae as a crucial tool against climate change, emphasizing its importance for a more sustainable future. Additionally, ‘Nika, El Calderón Tropical’, a Canary Islands production, issues an urgent call to action to protect the tropical whales of Tenerife, emphasizing the need for development in harmony with nature.
These documentaries offer a unique opportunity to discover extraordinary underwater landscapes and connect with those who dedicate their lives to preserving marine life, inspiring the audience to become aware of the importance of our oceans.
