Maximum temperatures may locally exceed 30 ºC in the southern interior of the eastern islands, in the midlands of the south and west of the western islands

The Canary Islands will have generally clear skies this Saturday, May 31, except for cloudy intervals in low areas of the northern mountainous islands and in the west of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

In addition, the presence of calima is expected, especially at higher altitudes, affecting the eastern province to a greater extent, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

On the other hand, minimum temperatures will slightly rise in interior areas, especially those facing south and west of the mountainous regions, with few changes elsewhere. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures will remain mostly stable on the coasts and will rise slightly to moderately in midlands and summits, especially those facing south and west.

In this way, locally temperatures may exceed 30 ºC in the southern interior of the eastern islands, as well as in midlands of the south and west of the other islands.

The wind will blow from light to moderate from the northeast in the western islands and from the north in the eastern ones. In the central peaks of Tenerife, it will be moderate from the southwest, increasing to strong, with probable locally very strong gusts in the end.

WEATHER IN THE REST OF SPAIN

May will end this Saturday with 18 provinces on alert for storms and heat on a day where Seville (Andalusia) will bear the brunt, with an orange alert for high temperatures, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The rest of the heat alerts will be in Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva, and Jaen (Andalusia); Huesca, Teruel, and Zaragoza (Aragon); Lleida and Tarragona (Catalonia); and Badajoz (Extremadura). There will also be storm alerts in the Ebro River area of La Rioja (La Rioja); Alava and Vizcaya (Basque Country); Burgos (Castilla y Leon); Center and valley of Villaverde and Cantabria del Ebro (Cantabria); and Girona (Catalonia), which will have a rain alert.

AEMET expects a predominance of high pressures in the Iberian Peninsula, although it highlights the influence of Atlantic disturbances, so relatively unstable weather will continue. In this way, there will be mostly clear skies, with morning low clouds in Galicia and the Cantabrian region, where they will persist throughout the day.

In the afternoon, there will be high cloudiness from the west and abundant cloud development in the interior. In this context, showers and storms are possible in the far north and the eastern third, and could be locally strong in the Cantabrian Mountains, upper Ebro, and mountains of the eastern third.

Although the state agency has emphasized that there is a wide margin of uncertainty, it has pointed out that they could affect other areas of the northern half and southeast, even in the form of dry storms with very strong gusts. Meanwhile, in the Balearic Islands, there will be mostly clear skies and in the Canary Islands, intervals of low clouds in the north. There could also be morning fog banks in Galicia and the Cantabrian region. Possible calima on the Atlantic slope.

Regarding temperatures, AEMET has indicated that they will remain high for the season in the Iberian Peninsula. Thus, maximum temperatures will tend to decrease in the northeast and far north, notably in the eastern Cantabrian region, and will increase on the western Atlantic coast.

On the other hand, minimum temperatures will drop in the northwest quadrant and rise in the eastern, southern thirds, and in the Balearic Islands. Also, in the Canary Islands, they will tend to rise, especially in midlands. Therefore, it is expected to exceed 34-36ºC on the southern Atlantic slope, northeastern depressions, and, punctually, valleys in the southeast. In fact, temperatures could reach 38-40ºC in the Guadalquivir and Guadiana rivers in Extremadura.

Furthermore, the forecast notes that moderate winds will blow, with some strong intervals, from the north in Rias Bajas and from the east in the Strait. Additionally, in the Canary Islands, moderate north winds will blow, shifting to northeast and gaining intensity. In the rest, light winds will prevail, with a predominance of the north component in the Cantabrian region, east in the Mediterranean area, and southwest in the rest of the Peninsula.
