Empresarios de Triana en Las Palmas tomarán medidas legales por distribución de terrazas en calle Cano.
The Association of Entrepreneurs in the Triana Area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has announced on Wednesday their decision to take legal action against a new distribution of terraces by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In a statement, they have stated that they will suspend the planned revitalization activities for the first open weekend in June, redirecting the available resources to provide legal and communication support to the hospitality entrepreneurs on Cano Street affected by this new distribution of terraces.
While the entrepreneurs in Triana «applaud» the commitment of the city council to provide advance notice of the planned actions for the upcoming Christmas campaign and to build bridges for collaborative work in various areas, they also emphasize their «responsibility as an association» to defend the interests of the affiliated companies, ensure legal security in the sector, and respond to any actions that may «endanger their activity.»
They point out that on April 10, 2025, a new terrace arrangement was published in the Official Gazette of the Province, limiting occupancy on Cano Street to only two people per table, reducing the capacity for these businesses by up to 50%.
This measure, coupled with «a continuous campaign of inspections and sanctions in recent months,» has created an «unsustainable» situation for several key hospitality establishments that contribute to the economic balance of the area.
In response to this situation, the association has decided to take legal action against the new terrace distribution on Cano Street, allocate the resources intended for June revitalization activities to provide legal and strategic support to affected entrepreneurs, and launch a public awareness campaign to «preserve a city model where economic activity and neighborhood well-being coexist harmoniously, without impositions or grievances.»
Lastly, the association asserts that they have always sought consensus and coexistence among users in all their activities for the sake of neighborhood rest, emphasizing that they maintain a «fluid and respectful» communication with the neighborhood collective ‘Enamorados de Triana,’ with whom they share a common vision of a «vibrant, friendly, and identity-rich» neighborhood.
However, they do not support the idea of Cano Street becoming an area that compromises the residents’ rest, while criticizing the lack of consideration in making a decision they deem «drastic.»
