La Laguna analiza la menopausia sin reglas

La Laguna hosts this Saturday, May 24th, the event ‘Menopause Without Rules. La Laguna 2025’, a pioneering gathering on the island aimed at informing, destigmatizing, and spreading awareness on a topic that has historically been silenced despite being a vital phase in a woman’s life: menopause.

‘Menopause Without Rules. La Laguna 2025’ is a groundbreaking event on the island, where four professionals, experts in menopause, share their knowledge with attendees. The event takes place at the La Laguna Gran Hotel starting at 10:00 am. An unusual setting, away from medical consultations, with an expected 150 attendees who will create a safe space to exchange experiences, advice, and promote cumulative knowledge about this unique and unavoidable stage. Tickets are available at menopausiapower.com

The event was presented this Tuesday at an event attended by the Councilor for Equality and Women of the City Council of La Laguna, Dailos González; the insular director of Equality and Diversity of the Tenerife Island Council, Patricia León; and the host of the event, journalist Mariam Moragas.

Dailos González stated that «events like this create synergies among women. It is a necessary, brave, and transformative space. These initiatives help us advance as a society, including in terms of knowledge, self-care, and the voice of women in all stages of life,» he commented. «From the City Council, we applaud the commitment to sharing knowledge from the perspective of women who show us how to talk about menopause with freedom and empowerment,» the councilor added.

Patricia León joined in applauding the team behind the event: «Many women do not find the support or forums to navigate menopause correctly,» she emphasized. «It is a professional event. These are women prepared in their field who will provide a comprehensive view of menopause. I recommend it not only for the valuable information but also for Lili Quintana’s monologue,» she concluded with a touch of humor.

The event’s host, Mariam Moragas, delved into the contents of this edition of ‘Menopause Without Rules. La Laguna 2025’. The host detailed the lineup of speakers, briefly outlining the scope of each of them and their experience in sharing knowledge about menopause.

In the Canary Islands, over 600,000 women are currently experiencing one of the three phases of menopause: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. However, this reality still does not receive the attention it deserves in the public agenda, and women often go through it without the support of rigorous information or comprehensive healthcare. The lack of role models, the myths surrounding menopause, the excessive medicalization of its symptoms, or, on the other extreme, its trivialization, create a void that directly impacts the physical and mental health of millions of women.

The event ‘Menopause Without Rules. La Laguna 2025’ is precisely designed to fill that void with useful tools, clear information, and a safe and friendly meeting space. Throughout the morning and afternoon of Saturday, May 24th, the audience will hear from four top professionals in the field of women’s health and well-being. Gynecologist and obstetrician Matilde Gómez and psychologist and sexologist Ana Lombardía will kick off the event with a focus on the symptoms and hormonal, physical, and emotional processes that accompany this vital transition. Following them, nutritionist Bárbara Munar and physiotherapist and journalist Laura Rojas, an expert in pelvic floor, will provide advice and practical tips to adopt habits that improve quality of life during this stage.

A global reality affecting everyone

By the year 2050, there will be over 1.23 billion menopausal women in the world, or nearly the current population of China. The realities of each of these women are diverse, with many unmet needs. Against persistent cultural norms, ‘menopausism’ insists on making women believe that with age they lose value, presence, and social importance. This is far from the truth. Hence, to combat misinformation, stigma, and invisibility, an event is held to speak openly, rigorously, empathetically, and freely about everything that comes with this stage that all women go through or will go through.

The event, led by Mariam Moragas, will also feature a live music ‘brunch’ where attendees can share experiences and engage in relaxed conversations with the experts. All participants will receive a gift bag with specially selected products to accompany them during this phase of life. As a grand finale, humorist Lili Quintana will deliver a monologue created for the occasion, bringing humor, tenderness, and truth to the stage.

‘Menopause Without Rules. La Laguna 2025’ is sponsored by the Canarian Institute of Equality of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Council for Equality and LGTBI of the City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the Directorate of Equality and Diversity of the Tenerife Island Council, Danacol, Lancôme, Theramex, Minimal Producciones, Procare-Health, Genové, Cumlaudelab, Seid Lab, Bijoux Indiscrets, Gabinete Médico Ginecológico, Astellas Pharma España, Dormitorum, Finca Canarias Aloe Vera, Empower You Fit Studio, and Farmacia Viana La Laguna.
