La Policía Nacional investiga menor que se precipitó de edificio en Las Palmas

Inspección Educativa is investigating whether there is «any problem» of school coexistence related to the minor who fell from a building in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The National Police reported on Tuesday that they are keeping the investigation open, through the Family and Women’s Unit (UFAM), regarding the alleged suicide attempt of the 14-year-old minor on Monday afternoon, from a building in the La Feria neighborhood, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

This is explained by the National Police in a statement after initially indicating that the case was being investigated as bullying. However, they now state that at the moment specialized agents are waiting to take statements from the father and mother of the young boy to gather information that will help clarify the facts, emphasizing that «at this moment it cannot be confirmed or ruled out the reason that led the minor to this situation,» requesting prudence and respect towards the family environment.

They also report that, after reviewing the database, «there are no previous reports» of bullying or any other related incidents.

Currently, the minor remains hospitalized in the Intensive Medical Unit (UMI) in a «stable condition» after 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

As for the events, they occurred at 6:20 p.m. on Monday in a building on Diego Betancort Suárez street in the capital of Gran Canaria, where the minor fell from an eighth floor, with personnel from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) attending the scene.

Upon arrival, SUC personnel, after confirming that the minor had several serious injuries, transported him by ambulance to the Maternal and Child University Hospital of the Canaries, as reported by the 112 Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Center.

Local Police officers also arrived at the scene, collaborating with resources and escorting the ambulance to the hospital to expedite its arrival.

INSPECTION EDUCATION INVESTIGATION

On the other hand, the Vice-Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Manuel Cabrera, who described what happened as «sad,» indicated that the ministry has contacted the family of the minor.

Likewise, he added in statements provided to the media that an investigation has been initiated by the Educational Inspection to see if there is «any problem» related to school coexistence that «could be the origin of what happened.»
