La Gala de Reconocimiento premia a destacadas mujeres en La Laguna
The City Council of La Laguna celebrated this Friday the sixth edition of the Recognition Gala for Women in the municipality, where the professional trajectory and social contribution of Teófila Acosta Ramos, the Women’s Association Magarza, and the care devices of the Insular Institute of Social and Health Care (SIAM) and Muvisa were awarded.
The institutional event, held at the Teatro Leal, was attended by the Councilor for Equality and Women, Dailos González, who in his speech valued «the effort and dedication» of the awarded individuals and entities, ensuring that with their work «they have broken barriers, opened paths, and demonstrated that talent and vocation do not understand gender.» Members of the Corporation, representatives of the Municipal Women’s Council, and various institutions of the municipality also attended the gala.
Delving into the merits of each of the awardees, Dailos González emphasized «the example of determination and overcoming of Teófila Acosta Ramos,» who «in a time when few women ventured into the professional transportation world, she became the second woman in Tenerife to obtain the bus driver’s license.»
Additionally, he highlighted her community commitment as the president of the San Joaquín and Santa Ana Seniors Association. «Her leadership has transcended borders, leading her to represent the elderly of Tenerife in the European Parliament and collaborate on initiatives that promote the well-being and participation of the elderly. Her example is an inspiration to the new generations, to whom she shares her experience through talks in schools and institutions, encouraging young people to pursue their dreams without being limited by stereotypes.»
Regarding the Women’s Association Magarza, the councilor expressed that «since its foundation in 1996, it has been a fundamental pillar in defending the rights and well-being of women in San Bartolomé de Geneto. Magarza is a reflection of the effort and struggle of those women who, since the 80s, raised their voices to improve the conditions of their neighborhood. Thanks to their work, many women have found in this association a place to be heard, educate themselves, and actively participate in the social and cultural life of the municipality,» he said.
Finally, Dailos González emphasized «the extraordinary work» of both the Comprehensive Care Device for Women at Muvisa, and the Insular Service for Women’s Care in La Laguna (SIAM), the latter focused on assisting women victims of gender-based violence. The councilor praised «the work of professionals who, day by day, provide hope and protection to so many women. Their commitment and sensitivity are essential in supporting women in all areas, providing social, legal, psychological, and employment assistance, as well as in the fight against gender-based violence, a problem that challenges us as a society.»
The Gala was hosted by Jenifer Jiménez and featured the performance of the improvisational theater company Imprudentes and the musical performance of Luis Machado and Alberto Méndez.
