The night of Monday of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife ended with a 30-year-old man dead in a brawl and 151 assists carried out by the Security and Emergency Department of the Hospital during these festivities.
The most significant incident of the Monday night of the Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the death of the young man in a brawl, who, despite being assisted «urgently» by medicalized health resources, stabilized and intubated, died on the way to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria (HUNSC), as reported by the city council in a press release.
However, officers of the National Police were able to detain a person allegedly related to this death, who has been brought before the court.
In addition to this event, during the Monday night of Carnival, a total of 151 people were assisted, of which 133 were adults and 18 were minors, with 47.6 percent of these cases being motivated by excessive alcohol consumption.
In the section of traumas and falls, 29 attentions were recorded, while a dozen adults were assisted for assaults; 26 cases were registered for diseases unrelated to the development of the Carnival itself, and 11 cases were due to intoxication from the consumption of drugs.
Thus, out of the total attended, it was necessary to refer 17 people to other specialized centers for diagnostic tests. Regarding the gender distribution, 66 of those attended were men and 85 were women.
SEVEN BRAWLS
On the other hand, the Local Police processed a total of 69 reports for possession or consumption of drugs, of which 50 were carried out by the Canine Unit within the control device established alongside the National Police in La Paz Square. They also collaborated in numerous health care services and intervened in a total of seven brawls.
Regarding the preventive and health care device dedicated to minors, managed by the Spanish Red Cross and working in coordination with the Local Police unit attached to the Minor’s Prosecutor’s Office, 20 minors were attended to, with only 18 in the socio-health area; and 11 cases of alcohol effects were recorded in minors.
At the Advanced Care Post (PAA), located in Plaza de España and managed by the volunteer group of Civil Protection of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 28 people were attended to.
Regarding the operation of two Violet Points, 23 people who requested information were attended to at the one located next to Plaza de España without any reports of sexual assaults, gender violence, or sexist behavior; while in the other, operating inside the Carnival Hospital, a special follow-up was carried out for a possible assault case, although this could not be confirmed.
The staff of the Rainbow Point attended to two incidents categorized as possible situations of LGBTI-phobia, while two homophobic incidents that occurred the previous day were reported by phone and, once referred to the legal assistance service, one of them resulted in a complaint filed with the National Police.
There were also 11 people who requested information on the operation of this resource, as well as on sexual matters.
Finally, in this nocturnal Carnival day, personnel from the Local Police, National Police, Tenerife Fire Department Consortium, the volunteer group of Civil Protection from Santa Cruz supported by the Güímar group, and the health personnel of the Spanish Red Cross worked. All of them coordinated from the Advanced Command Post (PMA) located at the Carnival Hospital in Plaza General Gutiérrez Mellado in the Tenerife capital.
