Amplia agenda de actos en La Laguna por el Día Internacional de la Mujer
The Equality Department of the City Council of La Laguna presented this Friday, February 28, the special program that will be offered throughout the month of March to commemorate 8-M or International Women’s Day. The Council has confirmed a wide agenda, whose motto will be ‘Together building equality’, consisting of galas, recognitions, theatrical performances, festivals, and informative talks.
Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, was present at the event and highlighted that from the local Corporation «we want to give absolute prominence to the associations, groups, and individuals working from different areas for effective equality between men and women, especially in the field of citizen awareness.»
In this line, Councilor Dailos González expressed that «on this day, we will pay tribute to the women who have been disruptive and who undoubtedly achieved significant advances in this matter, so it is necessary to look back to appreciate the long journey traveled, but also to look ahead and recognize where we are now, reflecting on what still needs to be done.»
In this regard, the councilor emphasized that «one of the clearest examples of this necessary regression will be the exhibition of women repressed in La Laguna, which we started at the end of last year and continues to travel to different civic centers in the municipality.»
«Undoubtedly, one of the most emblematic events of this program is the institutional event we have scheduled for the same March 8, starting at 10:00 am, at the former convent of Santo Domingo, where the institutional manifesto will be read by representatives of the Women’s Council of La Laguna,» explained Dailos González.
The theater will play a prominent role in this agenda thanks to the play ‘The life of colors’ by Silvia de Esteban. The first performance (March 11) will focus on high school students in La Laguna. The following day it will be open to the general public. Both performances will take place at the Leal Theater.
Another highlighted event will take place on the 14th of the same month, on the occasion of the VI Gala of Recognitions of the Women of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, also on the Leal stage. The event will serve to review and pay tribute to the trajectory of Teófila Acosta Ramos, the Women’s Association of Magarza, the Municipal Comprehensive Care Device for Women of La Laguna, and the Insular Service for Women’s Care of La Laguna (SIAM).
One of the most attractive proposals, in the field of citizen awareness, will be the talk by María Martín, a disseminator of inclusive and non-sexist language, which will take place on March 21. This action aims to provide tools to not discriminate through language.
Five days later, it will be the turn of journalist Ana Bernal, who will bring an interesting reflection on journalism and gender-based violence to La Laguna, a talk that aims to debunk the rumors generated around these current topics.
The program is complemented by other important events such as the theatrical performance ‘Women on stage’, a show that will combine talks, round tables of actresses, directors, writers, and producers from March 24 to 28 (Teatro Unión Tejina).
Anyone wishing to consult the rest of the program, with schedules and locations, can access it through the website of the City Council of La Laguna and on the social profiles of the Equality Department of the Council.
