Fuerteventura acoge el Congreso de Tecnología y Turismo FTV 4.0, edición 2025
The first phase of the congress, on May 13 and 14, will be aimed at young audiences
The Ministry of New Technologies offers a wide range of workshops, technological demonstrations, and immersive experiences
Fuerteventura will host a new edition of the ‘Technology and Tourism Congress FTV 4.0’, under the motto ‘Technology for Sustainable, Intelligent, and Exciting Tourism’. The Palace of Training and Congresses will once again bring together experts, companies, young people, and citizens to address the digital transformation of the tourism sector, in an event organized by the Ministry of New Technologies, Carmen Alonso.
The congress is structured in two distinct phases: a first phase aimed at the younger audience on May 13 and 14, and a second phase aimed at sector professionals, with a more business-oriented approach, to be held on June 12 and 13.
In the first phase, the congress will offer a diverse program of workshops, technological demonstrations, and interactive experiences. On May 13, the ‘Virtual Reality in Tourism’ workshop will take place from 10:00 to 11:30, where participants can explore destinations innovatively using VR glasses. That same day, from 12:00 to 14:00, ‘Fly over Fuerteventura’ will be held, a guided session with a flight simulator that allows virtual travel through the island’s most emblematic landscapes.
On May 14, the ‘AI in Tourism’ workshop will focus on the applications of artificial intelligence for personalizing experiences and optimizing tourism services. Additionally, those who could not participate the previous day will have a new opportunity to enjoy the immersive flight experience.
For the President of the island council, Lola García, this forum «represents a decisive commitment to new technologies to have a more intelligent, innovative, and connected tourism model with the citizens of the 21st century, placing Fuerteventura at the forefront of technological and digital transformation.»
In this sense, she highlights the need to open these spaces to the entire population, especially young people, as a way to involve them in the development of the island. «It’s not just about attracting visitors, but about generating knowledge and awareness of the value of who we are and what we can offer as a destination,» she adds.
On the other hand, the Minister of New Technologies, Carmen Alonso, ensures that «FTV 4.0 is a real opportunity for the entire population to lose the fear of technology, to learn from it, and to understand that there is also another way to do tourism,» she emphasizes.
One of the main novelties of the forum is the installation of a state-of-the-art flight simulator, the Sim Flight Motion VR, which will allow virtual flights over the landscapes of Fuerteventura. This immersive experience will be available for free in the main hall of the venue, with open sessions from 14:00 to 19:00 on both days.
The forum is part of the FDCAN Fuerteventura 2023-2027 Program, funded by Strategic Line 1 of the R&D&I axis, with the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands and the active participation of training centers, public entities, technological companies, and the tourism sector.
Immersive technology to discover the island
The flight simulator is designed as an educational tool and promotion of the territory. It allows users to pilot over a 3D map of the island, choose thematic routes such as volcanic, coastal, or heritage, and interact with physical aviation controls. It also includes a personalized narration that explains the geographical, historical, and ecological values of Fuerteventura.
This resource also promotes employability and technological appropriation, awakening vocations related to aviation, VR environment design, programming, and experiential tourism.
The entire population is encouraged to participate from the island council. No previous technical knowledge is required, and all activities are free of charge.
