El Juzgado de Violencia sobre la Mujer de Las Palmas se inhibe en causa de joven quemada

The Court of Violence against Women Number 2 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has relinquished jurisdiction in the case where a 17-year-old girl suffered an attack with flammable material in the neighborhood of La Isleta in the capital of Gran Canaria during the early hours of this Wednesday, considering that «the emotional relationship» with the now detained person is not proven, as reported by the Communication Office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC).

Therefore, the Court of Violence against Women Number 2 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria defers to the Court of Instruction Number 4 in the capital of Gran Canaria considering that the emotional relationship of the young girl with the alleged aggressor is not proven.

From now on, the preliminary proceedings will be under the jurisdiction of the court that was on duty when the events occurred.

The underage girl, of Spanish nationality, is under the care of the Government of the Canary Islands and lives in a facility within the network of the Gran Canaria Island Council, which is the guardian, and from the regional Childhood Department it was pointed out that she had run away on several occasions, leading to the corresponding complaints being filed.

The incident in which this underage girl was assaulted took place around 4:00 a.m., as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordination Center of 112 in the Canary Islands, where it was reported that a fire was occurring in a residence in the neighborhood of La Isleta. The emergency resources dispatched to the scene found a young girl on the street with severe burn injuries affecting almost her entire body, as detailed by the police, allegedly assaulted with flammable material.

Subsequently, the personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) confirmed that the underage girl had severe burn injuries, so she was transported in critical condition, in a medicalized ambulance, to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín and then evacuated to the burn unit in Seville.

It was also found that a young man, 20 years old and of North African descent, also showed symptoms of smoke inhalation, being assisted by medical personnel on site and taken to the aforementioned hospital.

The man was arrested after the young girl told the police officers that he was the one who caused her burn injuries.
