Coordinated Coastal Cleanup Operation in Gran Tarajal Shoreline
The teams of ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ join the workers of the Waste Department of the Cabildo and the City Council of Tuineje
The action focuses on cleaning and tidying up the final course of the La Florida ravine, which accumulates wood, pallets, plastics, cans, bottles, etc.
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ program and in coordination with the Works and Machinery Service and Waste Departments of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the City Council of Tuineje, has started a wide cleaning operation in the final stretch of the La Florida ravine to its mouth in Gran Tarajal.
For the insular president, Lola García, it is important to continue promoting the actions of the ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ program that are aimed at preserving our natural environment and ethnographic elements of the island. In this case, thanks to the coordination between different areas of the Cabildo and the City Council of Tuineje.
Blas Acosta, Machinery and Works counselor, emphasizes that «this coordinated action between various administrations responds to the demand of the residents themselves, who show an active disposition to improve the image of this coast of Gran Tarajal and thus recover the area for their enjoyment.»
Enrique Pérez, Waste counselor, points out that «we got down to work as soon as we heard about the initiative, because a necessary action, which also arises from the citizenry, deserves all efforts to bring it to a successful conclusion and to return with actions the confidence placed in public management.»
The teams of ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ have joined today the human and material resources of the Works and Machinery and Waste Departments and the City Council of Tuineje to start the cleaning operation in the final stretch of the La Florida ravine.
In this area, a large amount of garbage has accumulated (brought by the wind and runoff, but also abandoned on site) such as wood, pallets, plastics, cans, bottles, etc.
In this sense, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura insists on the importance of correcting uncivic habits to protect the good health of ecosystems and the good image of the natural spaces of the island, as well as acting periodically in maintenance actions like the one at hand.
The manual garbage collection work of the teams of ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ is being supported by the work of workers from the Waste Department and the installation of containers for the deposit of the waste removed.
The ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ assignment made by the department led by Blas Acosta to Gesplan contemplates actions over 15 months, between 2024 and 2025. During both exercises, four million euros of own financing will be invested in around a hundred «proximity actions» that directly impact the conservation of the natural environment, the positive perception of visitors, and the quality of life of residents.
