PUERTO DEL ROSARIO (FUERTEVENTURA), 1 (EUROPA PRESS)
The Partido Popular de Fuerteventura celebrated its XI Insular Congress this Sunday, a congress where regional councilor Jessica de León was elected with 98.2% of the votes as the new insular president of the Partido Popular, advocating for a «period of work, leadership, and closeness to the citizens.»
The event was attended by the party’s general secretary Cuca Gamarra, the national vice-secretary of Autonomous and Local Coordination, Elías Bendodo, and the president of the PP of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, who expressed their support for the new insular leadership, also led by Esther Hernández as insular secretary and Enrique Martínez as general coordinator, as reported by the party in a statement.
«We are not here to criticize just for the sake of it. The citizens already know that this insular government is not working. Our goal is to offer a better model, a serious, useful model with concrete solutions,» argued Jessica de León during her speech, where she also announced the organization of management committees in all municipalities between June and September to design a political strategy tailored to each territory.
She also announced the relaunch of the Gold Seagull Awards as a symbol of gratitude «to those who have shown their dedication and loyalty to the party and the island.»
«We are going to open the PP wide to our members, our sympathizers, and all those who want a better Fuerteventura. Listening, sharing, and building together is the way,» she emphasized.
PP INTERMUNICIPAL
Jessica de León announced that in October, the first PP Inter-municipal of Fuerteventura will be held, where the 25/27 Strategy will be defined, a roadmap with five axes: activating public land for housing construction, developing socio-healthcare facilities, diversifying the island’s economy, advancing in an Energy Territorial Plan, and establishing a sustainable tourism control system in protected natural areas.
«Not making decisions has been the great problem of this island. It is urgent to take action. The Cabildo has public land, and we have the will to turn it into solutions. Housing, energy, health, and employment. Those are our priorities,» she assured.
She also announced the creation of the Planning and Territorial Organization Commission, composed of experts, new talents, and representatives of social, business, and third sector groups.
The day included the presentation of the lecture «What Fuerteventura has lost.» Miriam de León (Pájara), José Vicente Calero (La Oliva), Esther Hernández (Tuineje), and Claudio Gutiérrez (Cabildo) participated, all agreeing «on the need to resume a political project with a government vocation and a vision for the future.»
After the lecture, the vote was held among the delegates. The unanimous result was in favor of the new leadership.
