This intervention is part of the ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ program

The Cabildo, through the ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ program, is beautifying two trails of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food’s Natural Paths Network. The work teams are working on these trails, connecting the populations of Casillas del Ángel, Tefía, and Tetir manually with hoes and rakes, within the ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ program that extends throughout the island, as pointed out by the island president, Lola García.

The Minister of Works and Machinery, Blas Acosta, explains that the Natural Paths Network «is an ambitious and much-needed project of the General State Administration that contributes to the conservation of our natural spaces by recovering disused infrastructures such as the paths that connected our towns.»

«Those paths that were once a necessity,» says Blas Acosta, «are now routes for enjoyment, knowledge, and conservation of our natural spaces suitable for tourists, but above all, they are paths for us, the people of Fuerteventura, to reconnect with our island and our way of life.»

For this reason, the Cabildo has tasked its own entity, Gestión y Planeamiento Territorial y Medioambiental (Gesplan), to carry out repair and maintenance work on the PR FV 15 and PR FV 15.1 trails that connect the towns of Casillas del Ángel, Tefía, and Tetir, all within the municipal term of Puerto del Rosario.

The PR FV 15 trail starts at the church of San Agustín in Tefía, where it coincides with the main road, then separates at a junction towards the Fortaleza mountain and the small town of Casillas del Ángel, from where it reaches the Tetir valley to join the PR FV 15.1 to Tetir.

The short-distance trail PR FV 15.1 starts at the hermitage of San Agustín in Tefía, climbs to the Degollada de Facay, descends through the Tetir valley to La Solana. At this point, the trail connects with the PR FV 15 to the town of Tetir, offering magnificent views of the surrounding area.

The ‘Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature’ commission carried out by the department led by Blas Acosta to Gesplan includes actions over 15 months, between 2024 and 2025. During both years, four million euros will be invested in nearly a hundred «closeness actions» that directly impact the conservation of the natural environment, the positive perception of visitors, and the quality of life of residents.
