VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 21 (EUROPA PRESS)
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said on Friday that he «hopes» that the rejection of some communities to the mandatory distribution of migrant minors will change «from now until the validation of the decree», although he confessed that he is still «amazed» that there are parties that, «in some way, want to lead Spain».
Speaking to the media from La Restinga (El Hierro), and on the occasion of the presentation of the work of its docks, he praised the «unity» of «neighbors» and «political forces in the Canary Islands», as well as of the institutions, for achieving a change «that had never been done before», in relation to the decree to modify the Immigration Law.
«There is still a way to go, we have to apply the decree, we will surely have to modify procedures, but we already know that for these children, we have a light at the end of the tunnel to take care of them well and obviously to ensure that everything is compatible with the activities of the Canarian people,» celebrated the Canarian president.
Therefore, Clavijo confessed that he is still «amazed» that «there are parties that, in some way, want to lead Spain», while it seems «that the Canary Islands are not Spain and not Europe».
«I hope they can change from now until the validation of the decree, but I also hope that they collaborate with the distribution of these children for the best interest of the minor and that we all feel part of Europe and part of Spain,» expressed Clavijo.
The Canarian president recalled that the migratory situation is «a structural phenomenon» that will «endure over time», so in that sense, there «obviously has to be a structural response», a solution that «can only be done by the State, as is the case of the port of La Restinga, and we will all have to help and collaborate with the State to achieve it».
