El Cabildo de Tenerife is developing the second session of MidaLab this weekend, the first Creative Laboratory of Design and Crafts. The event is taking place over four days, one of them yesterday, until this Monday at the CoworkIN space of the Parque Científico y Tecnológico de Tenerife (PCTT) with the participation of 30 artisans.
The initiative aims to «revitalize and modernize» traditional and contemporary craftsmanship on the island, as highlighted by the Councilor for Employment and Education of the Cabildo, Efraín Medina, in a statement, emphasizing the «transversal» work that materializes in this project.
Thus, MidaLab is a «pioneering» project where experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration between artisans, designers, and innovation experts become «fundamental pillars» to revitalize and modernize local craftsmanship in Tenerife, as explained by the Cabildo.
The objective, according to the island institution, is to enhance the competitiveness of the island’s craftsmanship in a contemporary and global market, while highlighting its roots and traditions. To achieve this, the Laboratory has a team of «top-level» tutors.
Thus, the team is composed of outstanding professionals and experts in design, innovation, and contemporary craftsmanship, who will contribute their knowledge and experience to enrich creative dynamics. Among the specialists accompanying this laboratory are renowned names such as Jorge Pérez, Pilar González, Idoia Cuesta, among others.
PRODUCTION AND COMMERCIALIZATION
The Cabildo highlights how the Laboratory promotes the implementation of creative and productive methodologies, allowing participants to explore new ways of doing, creating, and innovating, becoming an open and creative space that combines design, craftsmanship, and innovation.
This project, they add, promotes research and collaborative production among artisans, designers, experts, and technicians to explore new horizons in artisanal innovation.
Organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife through the Insular Craft Company (Artenerife), it has the collaboration of the Parque Científico-Tecnológico de Tenerife (PCTT) and several municipalities of Tenerife, to which the rest of the municipal corporations will be added.
The products resulting from the creative process in MidaLab can be produced and marketed by Artenerife Innovation, as well as other sales points throughout the national territory.
Thus, the distribution of these products will be carried out through physical stores of collaborators, online stores, and in specialized fairs and events.
According to the Cabildo de Tenerife, this marketing model allows the creations developed in MidaLab to reach a wider audience, giving artisans the opportunity to expand their businesses and generate higher income.
