Sergio Rodríguez insta a los Reyes a cumplir compromisos con La Palma

The visit of the monarchs has served to give visibility at a national and international level to the reconstruction process of the Island.
The president of the Cabildo of La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, has conveyed to Their Majesties the Kings of Spain the need for the Government of Spain to fulfill its commitments and make effective the payment of the promised aid and the updating of expenses derived from the reconstruction of public infrastructure.
Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited the island of La Palma this Friday, where they were able to see first-hand the progress in recovery after the volcanic eruption and reiterate the commitment of the Crown to the future of the island.
During their stay, Their Majesties have held meetings with local authorities, representatives of the affected sectors, and residents, showing interest in the current situation and ongoing projects. In this sense, they have highlighted the resilience of the people of La Palma and the joint effort of all institutions.
Therefore, Sergio Rodríguez points out that «we have been able to see and appreciate everything that has been done and we have talked about the importance of the State continuing to provide economic resources to keep moving forward,» the president stated, emphasizing the need to maintain economic support to consolidate the recovery and development of La Palma.
The presence of the monarchs has been highly valued by the Cabildo of La Palma, with Sergio Rodríguez noting that «the visit of the Kings puts us in the international media spotlight, something that we must be grateful for and that gives us strength to continue working for recovery,» highlighting the boost that international visibility brings to the island.
In addition, Sergio Rodríguez conveyed to King Felipe and Queen Letizia that the emergency situation persists, as many people do not have the possibility to rebuild their lives and there are still many infrastructures to be recovered, emphasizing that «we must be able, together, to leave behind a better island with more opportunities than before the eruption.»
The royal visit has served to reinforce the message of unity and support for La Palma, demonstrating that reconstruction is a priority for the institutions of La Palma and the Canary Islands, and that the commitment to the people of La Palma remains strong.
Finally, Sergio Rodríguez thanks the closeness and affection that the monarchs have always shown to the people of La Palma, especially after the volcanic eruption, which is reciprocated many times over by the people of the island each time they visit.
