Los mayores del Centro de Día Acaymo participan en telenovela ‘Barranqueras de pasión’

The City Council of La Laguna, through the Department of Social Welfare, presented on Wednesday the ‘Acaymo, Barranqueras de pasión’, a fictional soap opera produced and starring the seniors of the Acaymo Day Center. This audiovisual initiative aims to combat aging through a positive, active, and creative image of older people.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, María Cruz, was responsible for presenting this initiative alongside the program director, Paco Almagro. The councilor thanked the protagonists for their dedication and encouraged the public to enjoy this production that «brings us closer to the elderly from a fresh, fun, and endearing perspective,» emphasizing that «our seniors have undeniable talent and creativity.»

The councilor recalls that ‘Acaymo, Barranqueras de pasión’ is a continuation of the project carried out in 2024: ‘Acaymo Television’, a news program made by and for seniors, which achieved very good results. This time, the format evolves into fiction, with 10 mini episodes lasting between 8 and 10 minutes in which the center’s users recreate the great soap operas of television history. The plots unfold in diverse settings such as Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, the United States, and Istanbul, thanks to elaborate technical work with chroma key, hundreds of hours of audiovisual documentation, and original music generated with Artificial Intelligence.

Each of these stories of loves and heartbreaks, with seniors as protagonists, features special collaborations from the Tenerife communication world. The first episode, premiering this week, is titled ‘The daughter of the carpet seller’, set in Istanbul. It will be followed by ‘The story of María Encarnación de los Tequeños’ (Venezuela) or ‘The boy from the Path of the Pears’ (Colombia).

Paco Almagro, on his part, indicated that this initiative «is much more than just entertainment» because «our seniors are an example for the entire community, and this soap opera reflects their ability to reinvent themselves, tell stories with passion, and convey joy.» The project leader emphasized that the initiative «is made by and for seniors, and also for their families,» highlighting the work involved in working with elderly individuals, such as the 97-year-old protagonist of the first episode.

The episodes will be broadcast on Mírame Televisión, reaching the entire archipelago, and will also be available on the social media channels of the council and the production company, as well as on Facebook and YouTube channels. Additionally, this production has been invited to participate in the 12th edition of the CinedFest festival, in the section of short films out of competition.
