La Policía Local evita ocupación múltiple de viviendas en Arrecife

ARRECIFE (LANZAROTE), 30 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Local Police of Arrecife (Lanzarote) managed to prevent the multiple occupation of 14 homes by about twenty people in an unfinished building in the capital of the island, thanks to calls from neighbors to the municipality’s anti-squatting phone line.

This was reported by the police force in a statement, adding that about ten officers went to the location after neighbors alerted them to prevent the building from being squatted by individuals who had previously engaged in this activity in other buildings in different municipalities of Lanzarote.

Through the mediation of the police officers, these individuals voluntarily left the houses within the first 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who is directly responsible for the Local Police, instructed the officers to set up a surveillance operation until the homes were boarded up by municipal workers.

On their part, the residents of this building had informed the officers of suspicions or signs that an organized squatting of these homes might be underway, given the «scheduled» visits of different people on consecutive days to squat this building.

Finally, De León reiterated to the public that in case of any indication or suspicion of illegal squatting, they should immediately contact the designated number: 682 271 466, attended by the Local Police.
