La Gerencia de Urbanismo del Ayuntamiento de La Laguna nombra nuevo gerente tras casi una década.

It is worth mentioning that Bencomo held the position of technical director of the municipal Area of Territorial Planning since the end of 2023, an executive position that is now vacant and will soon be filled through a new process. With this appointment, which follows the selection call published in the Official Gazette of the Province on April 14 of this year, the organization’s objective of strengthening the structural and managerial capacity of the Autonomous Body and the Area is fulfilled, as announced at the beginning of this term.

«After a period of restructuring and progressive goal setting, during which we have approved the Urban Agenda, reinforced the technological development of the Management to improve and reduce service delivery times, in addition to providing viable technical solutions to entrenched problems and updating management to new supra-municipal regulations, we have now reached the situation that made it viable and necessary to convene and fill the position of manager,» explains the managing director of this autonomous body and councilor for Territorial Planning, Adolfo Cordobés.

He also points out that the Management now faces two of the most important and complex procedures for an organization of this nature, such as the drafting and approval of the General Urban Plan, since the current one dates back to 2004, as well as the update of all regulations related to the historic ensemble of La Laguna, the only one in the Canary Islands declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The statutes of the Urban Planning Management of the City Council of La Laguna define the responsibilities and attributions of the manager as being in charge of the administrative direction and management of the entity’s resources, that is, the most strategic aspects. This includes supervising daily operations, implementing approved policies, and legal representation, competencies that give them a central role in the coordination and leadership of the Autonomous Body, and are complementary to those of the technical direction, which focuses on operational and technical aspects.

According to these statutes, the manager’s responsibilities will include supervising personnel and managing economic resources to ensure the efficient functioning of the Management; implementing decisions and policies approved by the governing bodies; acting as the representative of the Autonomous Body in legal and administrative matters; ensuring that daily activities are carried out in accordance with established regulations and objectives, as well as presenting proposals and projects to improve urban and administrative management, among others.
