GMR Canarias destaca en Gastrocanarias 2025 la producción local y la identidad canaria

The Government of the Canary Islands highlighted on Wednesday the presence of the GMR Canarias stand (Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias) on the second day of Gastrocanarias 2025, a space conceived as a «living pantry» of the islands, with showcookings by chefs from each island, guided tastings, and samplings, as part of the promotion and support for the commercialization of local products.

Gastrocanarias, in its tenth edition, is being held until May 22 at the Santa Cruz Trade Fair. From the Government of the Canary Islands’ institutional stand, managed by this public company, the local product is praised as an essential basis of the Canarian identity and territory, combining tastings, workshops, showcookings, and commercial meetings, with the aim of highlighting local productions, supporting the primary sector, and connecting producers and restaurateurs, as stated by the Government in a press release.

«GastroCanarias represents a unique opportunity to showcase the work of the Canarian countryside and its essential role in shaping a sustainable food model based on proximity, and to showcase the excellence of local products, of great quality and freshness, as the basis of a gastronomy that has experienced a great boom in recent years, thanks to the talent of great chefs, and which is currently a major tourist attraction in the islands,» added Quintero.

CANARIAN DIVERSITY

The exhibition space is structured into four areas: product display, commercial meeting area, workshop and tasting area, and logistics zone.

More than 25 companies participate in selling their products through GMR, including cheeses, wines, jams, sauces, gofio (toasted corn flour), craft beers, or chocolates made in the islands.

The big novelty this year is the expansion of the commercial meeting area, with 16 booths set up to facilitate meetings between producers and the HORECA channel (hotels, restaurants, and catering), generating synergies and business opportunities.

Throughout the three-day fair, a comprehensive program of activities is being carried out, including showcookings by chefs from each island, guided tastings, and samplings of wines, vermouths, and cocktails, among other products.
