El PP de Las Palmas advirtió de la «situación límite» en Miguel Rosas

The spokesperson for the Popular Party in the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Jimena Delgado, stated this Wednesday that her party warned «just a week ago» about the «critical situation» in the surroundings of Doctor Miguel Rosas street, where a fire broke out early this morning due to accumulated belongings on the same street, forcing the evacuation of a six-story building and leaving 12 affected, one of them in serious condition.

Delgado mentioned that their party was demanding an integral intervention, including cleaning and security, urban inspections, pension control, and social services reinforcement, so she stated that «it is reckless not to have taken action» after the complaint they made, with the neighbors having to «bear the consequences,» as reported by the PP in a press release.

«We wish a speedy recovery for the injured and urge the mayor –Carolina Darias– to acknowledge that municipal inaction has direct effects on people’s lives,» she pointed out, criticizing that while waste «remains uncollected for weeks and even months in many neighborhoods,» the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria «parades her IV Urban Hygiene Plan.»

Delgado added that this plan is «an ineffective self-promotion,» as on average it only reaches each neighborhood once every 20 months when it should be done daily. In this sense, she emphasized that if the furniture that caught fire had been removed «in time, we probably wouldn’t be talking about the mentioned fire today.»

The spokesperson for the Popular Party in the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also mentioned the «limited police presence» in the area, despite being less than 500 meters away from a police station, stating that «everyone» is aware of the «police officer shortage, which even led to no accident patrol in the city last Sunday morning.»

She also asserted that the residents of this area «are fed up with the management of the PSOE and its partners, Nueva Canarias and Podemos,» as they expressed in the meeting last week, although she noted that this «negligence is repeated in the 128 neighborhoods of the city.»

Finally, in order to prevent a similar incident from happening again, the PP demanded that the mayor «take cleaning and security seriously on every street in the city and put aside speeches and photos, to finally tender the new cleaning contracts.»

«Carolina Darias seems more concerned about her role in the Committee of the Regions than about solving the real problems that we citizens face; in fact, the mayor was absent last Monday and Tuesday to participate in said body,» she concluded.
