El Cinturón Ciclista Este Isla Bonita: Una prueba deportiva consolidada en La Palma

The Cabildo of La Palma and the municipalities of the East region of the Island are promoting a new edition of the East Isla Bonita Cycling Belt, a sports event that is becoming a benchmark competition in La Palma in its third edition.
The race was presented by the Sports Counselor, Yurguen Hernández; the mayor and Sports Councilor of Villa de Mazo, Idafe Hernández; the Sports Councilor of Breña Baja, Juan Manuel Pérez; the manager of the company Dinámica Eventos, Javier Cano, and the cyclist Iban Mayo.
Yurguen Hernández details that it is «an event of insular interest that is consolidating, and allows the cycling culture, always with road safety as the main element, to expand throughout our territory.»
Furthermore, he emphasizes the importance of promoting this type of activities on the Island, in a type of competition that has many followers. «Cycling is a sport that is widely practiced in La Palma, and this type of exercise allows for high participation from the community.»
On Saturday, May 24th, the online modality will take place starting at 4:00 p.m., with a route of 52 kilometers, starting and ending at the Town Hall of San José.
In addition, a team time trial will also take place, running from San Pedro to Villa de Mazo, covering a distance of seven kilometers with a three-minute interval between participants.
This initiative passes through the municipalities of Villa de Mazo, Breña Baja, Breña Alta, and Santa Cruz de La Palma, allowing many fans to enjoy watching the race from different locations.
In this edition, former professional cyclist Iban Mayo is the guest of honor. The Basque rider achieved very remarkable successes in his professional life, such as winning a stage in the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, two of the most important cycling tours in the world.
Furthermore, during these days, workshops and exhibitions about this sport have also been developed, where the intricacies and history of cycling in La Palma have been further explored.
