Agents of the National Police have arrested a 27-year-old man with a criminal record for two crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation for unsuccessfully attempting to rob a gas station and a pharmacy in Arrecife (Lanzarote) brandishing a blunt object.
In a statement, the Superior Police Headquarters of the Canary Islands explained that the events took place early in the morning on February 5 when the arrested individual tried to rob a gas station wielding a blunt object similar to a baton in an attempt to steal the proceeds.
However, a customer who was at the scene was able to alert the employees, who managed to close the doors of the establishment in time and prevent the robbery as the arrested person was unable to access the interior.
Subsequently, unable to achieve his goal, the criminal headed to a nearby pharmacy where this time he managed to gain entry.
After intimidating the staff by hitting the furniture with the object he carried, he reached the cash register without encountering any opposition. However, unable to open it and steal the proceeds, he eventually fled the scene.
The investigation was able to identify the perpetrator within a few hours and arrest him the following day. Once the police proceedings were completed, he was brought before the competent Judicial Authority, which ordered his imprisonment.
