Autorizada la puesta en servicio del Parque Eólico de San Bartolomé

The General Directorate of Energy has authorized the definitive commissioning of the San Bartolomé Wind Farm after successfully passing the initial tests. Oswaldo Betancort: "This government group does not work with flags but with management and facts. All the wind energy we have deployed in Lanzarote and La Graciosa is operating at full capacity. Never before has so much clean energy been fed into the grid as at this moment."
Lanzarote and La Graciosa now have all five wind farms operating at full capacity, generating a total power of 40.7 MW, which can cover up to 35 percent of the electrical demand on the islands during specific periods. The General Directorate of Energy, under the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands, issued a resolution on June 20th for the definitive commissioning of the San Bartolomé Wind Farm after successfully completing the test operating period.
The President of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasized that "this government group does not work with flags but with management and facts. All the wind energy we have deployed in Lanzarote and La Graciosa is operating at full capacity. Never before has so much clean energy been fed into the grid as at this moment." The Cabildo de Lanzarote, through Insular de Aguas de Lanzarote, S.A., Inalsa, took over the San Bartolomé Wind Farm in the El Monte area of the municipality last week, following the definitive resolution from the General Directorate of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands. This wind farm has a power capacity of 9.2 MW.
The installation, supply, and maintenance of the San Bartolomé Wind Farm was awarded to the company Elecnor in June 2022, the same company that executed the Teguise I and Arrecife wind farms, with an investment of nearly 12 million euros financed through the FDCAN, Canary Islands Development Fund.
The Wind Energies Councillor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Domingo Cejas, after visiting the Wind Farm, recalled that "the four wind turbines of this farm were stored at the Puerto de Los Mármoles during the last year of the previous legislature because no one could resolve the negative environmental report from the Government of the Canary Islands. We took action and now we have met all the requirements, and the wind turbines are operating non-stop."
The Vice President and Head of Planning and Project Coordination Area, María Jesús Tovar, stated that this commissioning "marks a before and after in the sustainable energy of our island." "From the area, we believed it was necessary to finance projects that would promote a transition to renewable energies. That’s why we invested nearly 14 million euros through the FDCAN Funds to make this a reality," she added.
Maintenance in all wind farms
Lanzarote currently has all five wind farms in operation and properly maintained: Arrecife, Teguise I, San Bartolomé, Punta Grande, and Los Valles. Cejas noted that "three of these wind farms have expired maintenance contracts with no new tenders issued," totaling a wind power capacity of 40.7 MW.
The maintenance contracts for Arrecife, San Bartolomé, and Los Valles are valid for the coming years with Enercon for the first two and Gamesa for Los Valles. Punta Grande and Teguise I are undergoing scheduled annual maintenance and necessary corrections until new contracts are awarded, after two previous tenders were left vacant.
The Wind Energies Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote is considering consolidating maintenance contracts for several wind farms under one agreement to make the tender more attractive to sector companies once contracts for Punta Grande and Teguise I are awarded and the current contracts expire.
