The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Department of Education, announces the opening of the pre-registration period for the 2025/2026 academic year at the Insular School of Music. The application period will be from May 5th to May 25th. Applications can be submitted through the links available on the official website escuelademusica.cabildofuer.es. All information regarding the educational offerings, age requirements, and tuition fees are available on the website. As new developments, a folklore area will be opened at the La Oliva headquarters and a choir group in Gran Tarajal.
The President of the island’s Corporation, Lola García, explains that the center has seven branches spread throughout Fuerteventura with the aim of providing access to music education for individuals of all ages and bringing music education to different locations on the island. In this regard, she emphasizes that «the Insular School of Music is a key center for providing access to music education for Majorero students and promoting local talent.»
In line with this, the Minister of Education and Youth, Adargoma Hernández, encourages all interested individuals to take advantage of this opportunity to start or continue their music education. He also highlights the commitment of the Cabildo in its commitment to «a wide range of accessible educational offerings for all individuals that promote an interest in music, as well as creativity, personal development, and cultural enrichment of Fuerteventura’s students.»
Academic Offer
For the upcoming 2025/2026 academic year, the program at the Insular School of Music will offer classes in three major areas of specialization: classical music, modern music, and folklore. These disciplines are designed for both beginner students and those with previous experience, who can take proficiency tests to access higher levels.
Within the classical music area, students can specialize in clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, violin, cello, double bass, classical guitar, solo timple, percussion, piano, singing, musical language, and various choral formations adapted to different ages. Interested individuals can enroll in this specialization starting from eight years old, except for choir courses and music and movement, which have different age criteria. Additionally, those who wish to access a level other than 1st of Basic Education can request a proficiency test.
The modern music area will include training in electric bass, electric guitar, modern percussion, modern double bass, modern saxophone, modern timple, modern singing, modern piano, Spanish guitar, modern and applied harmony, and improvisation. The minimum age for this specialization will be 10 years, except for electric guitar, which will be from 14 years old.
On the other hand, the folklore area will offer classes in bandurria, lute, guitar, and timple. Interested individuals can access this specialization from seven years old and also have the possibility to take a proficiency test if they have previous experience.
Training by Branches
Each of the seven branches scattered across the island will offer programming tailored to local needs and demands. The Puerto del Rosario branch will have a wide range that includes classical, modern, and folklore music. In Casillas del Ángel, folklore classes will be offered, with specialties such as bandurria, lute, guitar, and timple. Valles de Ortega will offer a program focused on folklore and choirs for children, youth, and adults.
At the Gran Tarajal branch, students can enroll in classical music classes, such as classical guitar, piano, musical language, and mixed choir for individuals over 16 years old, as well as children’s and youth choir for ages between 8 and 15 years. Additionally, classes in folklore and modern music such as electric guitar, modern percussion, singing, and modern piano will be taught.
The Lajares branch will offer training in modern music with classes in electric guitar and modern percussion. In Corralejo, students can specialize in electric guitar within the modern music area. Finally, the La Oliva branch will have a wide range combining classical, modern, and folklore music.
