Ignatius Farray will lead a unique artistic residency for comedians on the Isla Bonita
The Palmero Comedy Festival Desaquellados, organized by the Cabildo and Sodepal, announces the opening of the registration period to participate in the Palmera Comedy Academy, an artistic residency that will take place from June 24 to 29, 2025 in various spaces on the island of La Palma and will be led by the renowned comedian Ignatius Farray.
The Academy, which will take place within the festival, aims to offer a transformative experience to comedians and theater professionals from all over Spain who wish to explore their creative potential in contact with the natural, human, and emotional environment of La Palma. Under the motto of «not coming to work hard, but to surrender,» the proposal focuses on coexistence, introspection, and connection with the Palmeran idiosyncrasy as tools to find a new comedic perspective.
For five days, the selected individuals will participate in writing and acting workshops, creative routes and walks, meetings with local influencers, and a final performance on the main stage of the Festival on Saturday, June 28, where they will share with the audience the results of this artistic process.
«At the Cabildo de La Palma, we firmly believe in the power of humor as a tool for cultural dynamism, personal development, and also economic growth,» says Miriam Perestelo, Councilor for Economic Promotion and CEO of Sodepal. «The Palmera Comedy Academy will not only attract talent to our island, but it will also allow the Palmeran soul—our way of seeing, speaking, and laughing—to be part of a top-level creative process,» adds the councilor.
The residency will be led by Ignatius Farray, a key figure in contemporary Spanish comedy, accompanied by Petite Lorena, artistic director of the Festival, and a team of humor and performing arts professionals.
«We invite all comedians and theater professionals from Spain, and especially the Palmerans, to participate in this residency, as a way to continue positioning the beautiful island as a space of vibrant and creative culture,» adds Perestelo.
