
The Government of the Canary Islands has formalized the delivery this week of the Excellence Distinctions 2025, recognizing eleven non-university centers in the Canary Islands for their work in favor of an "inclusive and quality education" in a model conceived as an "integral space", both for learning and for the development and acquisition of key competencies.
In this edition, corresponding to the 2024/2025 academic year, the awardees in the ten existing categories were the Compulsory Education Centers (CEO) Guajara (Tenerife) and En Vallehermoso (La Gomera), and the Infant and Primary Education Centers (CEIP) Prácticas Aneja EUP, La Verdellada, Príncipe Felipe, San Matías (Tenerife), Pepe Dámaso, Aguadulce, La Goleta, Europa-Néstor Álamo, and Chano Sánchez (Gran Canaria), as reported by the regional department this week.
"These distinctions are a source of deep pride in my daily work in the Department, because they recognize the tireless work of Canarian teachers in favor of a comprehensive and quality education," said Poli Suárez, Education Councillor of the Canary Islands Government, in a press release. He also congratulated the eleven recognized centers and their teachers, emphasizing the promotion of plurilingualism, mathematical competence, inclusion, innovation, leadership, coexistence, sustainability, heritage, and above all, commitment.
ELEVEN CATEGORIES
The first Excellence distinction, in the category of curricular integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), was awarded to CEO Guajara, located in the municipality of Fasnia in Tenerife, for the effective use of technological resources in all stages, areas of knowledge, and projects, in extracurricular or complementary activities.
CEIP Prácticas Aneja EUP in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, received recognition for promoting mathematical competence among students, reflected in activities such as Math Olympiads or the celebration of Mathematics Day.
In the category of promoting plurilingualism and intercultural education, CEIP Pepe Dámaso in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was distinguished for immersing students in a bilingual environment using English and Spanish together.
On the other hand, in the category of educational inclusion, CEIP Aguadulce in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was recognized for its strong commitment to the diversity of students and families, both in managing spaces and resources.
The fifth Excellence distinction awarded innovation in education to CEIP La Goleta in Arucas, Gran Canaria, through projects and spaces like the market, the radio classroom, the school garden, and the storytelling tree.
Another Gran Canaria CEIP, Europa-Néstor Álamo, was distinguished for its pedagogical leadership and participatory culture, where dialogue, mutual care, and shared aesthetics are tools for transformation in Jinámar.
CEIP La Verdellada in La Laguna received recognition for improving student coexistence and well-being, focusing on functional, emotional, and relational aspects, as well as involving families.
The Excellence distinction for organizing and utilizing learning spaces was awarded to CEIP Príncipe Felipe in Candelaria, Tenerife, which ensures that each corner is a vibrant educational space, optimizing its use and adapting it to different needs.
OTHER CATEGORIES
In the category of promoting the natural, social, and cultural heritage of the Canary Islands, CEIP Chano Sánchez in Gran Canaria was recognized for its commitment to preserving traditions and the rich heritage of the islands.
Similarly, CEO in Vallehermoso, La Gomera, was acknowledged for its educational work focused on transmitting, preserving, and experiencing the heritage of the islands.
Finally, CEIP San Matías in Santa Cruz de Tenerife received the Excellence distinction for promoting linguistic communication competence among students through a diverse linguistic project, including reading spaces in corridors, a reading sponsorship corner, and the specific commission COMUNIC-ARTE, among others.
