Guardia Civil agents in Lanzarote have managed to clarify up to seventeen crimes of theft and robbery, an investigation that has ended with the arrest of a man and a woman, as reported by the security force in a statement on Thursday.
These criminal acts had generated «a subjective sense of insecurity and some concern» among residents and visitors in the town of Playa Blanca.
The investigation began in early April, after a significant increase in thefts and robberies was detected in a specific area of Playa Blanca.
The criminals usually accessed different hotel complexes, taking advantage of the absence of occupants in the rooms to steal valuable items. However, after several thefts committed in the same complex, the agents acted quickly and, thanks to the surveillance camera images, identified the suspects.
The woman was located in the vicinity thanks to the drone of the UdronYaiza Unit of the Local Police, which collaborated in the search.
Most of the stolen items, including mobile phones, cash, clothing, and cosmetic and perfume products, were recovered during the arrest.
In the days following the first incident, the other perpetrator, who was fully identified, had fled but continued to commit several offenses alone until being detected by an Officer from the Main Post of Yaiza, who, off duty, requested support from his colleagues and proceeded with the arrest.
INVESTIGATIONS
In addition, a series of clues based on the analysis of security cameras from various businesses in Playa Blanca and Puerto de Carmen were gathered, confirming that the authors had fraudulently used several stolen bank cards, thus strengthening the evidence of their involvement in the investigated crimes.
After conducting a series of police inquiries, it was confirmed that these two individuals are one of the most active criminal couples in Fuerteventura, attributing them to another twenty property crimes on that island.
Therefore, the Guardia Civil Units of Fuerteventura were informed of the arrests made, and they were subsequently rearrested.
The necessary proceedings have been initiated regarding the events, which are being sent to the Arrecife Instruction Court.
