The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, highlighted on Monday that when there is a migrant minors reception center that «does not» meet the conditions, action is taken, it is «closed, end of story», in relation to the decree to close the facility for these young people in Playa Honda, on the island of Lanzarote.
Clavijo emphasized that the control mechanisms of the Government of the Canary Islands «are working» and the inspection, despite «the saturation, despite the difficulties and the workload, the officials and the team of the ministry continue to inspect and ensure the best interest of the child.»
In this way, he pointed out that when circumstances are detected where the conditions «are not ideal», the inspection does not hesitate, it «closes, end of story», as he pointed out that trying to «hide, make excuses, no», because «above all is the interest of the child.»
«When we find a center or a space where the conditions are not being met and where the conditions are not ideal for minors, we take action, end of story. I believe that the firmness with which the ministry has acted there certainly gives us peace of mind and guarantees to everyone,» he added.
However, he noted that this «does not change the current state of saturation» and that as more minors continue to arrive, «the sooner the referrals occur» because, to the extent that they are «overwhelmed, it is easier for circumstances like those that led to the closure of the Playa Honda center to occur.»
