
The Economic and Social Forum of La Laguna has unanimously agreed to award the Pedro Molina Ramos 2025 Prize to Wladimiro Rodríguez Brito, a teacher and researcher trained at the University of La Laguna and responsible for significant contributions that have benefited the primary sector of the island of Tenerife. The decision was ratified in the last plenary session of the FES, held earlier this week.
The mayor of the municipality and president of the FES in La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, emphasized «Wladimiro’s outstanding career, which has achieved significant accomplishments in areas such as agroecology, crop varieties, geography, advances in irrigation, and large repopulations, with special care for the preservation of native species.»
On the other hand, the technical director of the Forum, Jordi Bercedo, recalled that «this Pedro Molina Ramos prize has been awarded since 2023 and aims to pay tribute to the most prominent figures in the history of the primary sector of Tenerife, with a special connection to La Laguna.»
The award will be presented on July 20th during the closing ceremony of the Livestock Fair of Tenerife, to be held at the Casa del Ganadero. Wladimiro Rodríguez Brito will receive this award, which was bestowed on Telesforo Rodríguez Pérez last year.
Career and Achievements
Wladimiro Rodríguez Brito, a native of Barlovento (La Palma), has served as the Councilor for Environment and Landscape of the Cabildo de Tenerife, becoming an Adoptive Son of Tenerife.
He holds a PhD in Geography from the University of La Laguna with Extraordinary Prize and in the mid-1970s, he began his work as a teacher and researcher, specializing in agricultural topics, focusing on export agriculture, which was the subject of his doctoral thesis.
Since 1995, he has held the responsibility for the Environmental area of the island corporation, presiding over the Board of Protected Natural Spaces, an advisory body made up of representatives from the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands, the University of La Laguna, the municipalities of the Island, and environmental groups. He was also the founder of the Coordinadora de Agricultores y Ganaderos de Canarias in 1976 and the coordinator of a master’s degree in environmental management between the two Canary Islands universities.
