Encuentro Nacional de Datos Abiertos en Lanzarote: Cultura del conocimiento abierto

The event will focus on the development of open culture in the digital society of the 21st century.
Twenty experts will reflect on the promotion of open data in the field of public administrations.
The Jameos del Agua Auditorium will host the IV National Open Data Encounter (ENDA), which will take place on Friday, May 16th, in Lanzarote. Under the theme «Data in the culture of open knowledge», twenty experts will share experiences on the promotion of open data in a public administration integrated into the digital society of the 21st century, where the creation and exchange of content and products without license restrictions promote the development of new applications, analysis, and services for citizens.
The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Digital Transformation of Public Services, the General Directorate of Transparency and Citizen Participation, and the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC), are the promoters of this fourth edition of the Encounter, demonstrating the commitment of the Canary Islands public administrations to the promotion of open data.
The IV ENDA will feature four discussion panels focusing on the following topics: «Open data for a science in the service of public decisions»; «Open culture: how data brings us closer to knowledge»; «Unlocking the potential of open data»; and «Open administrations in service to citizens».
On the other hand, Óscar Corcho García, a professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence, co-director of the Ontological Engineering group, and deputy director of the R&D center AI.nnovation Space at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, will present a successful case in his presentation «Challenges in transforming an organization to be data-centric, using knowledge graphs. The case of the European Railway Agency.»
The ten experts forming the scientific committee of the Encounter will present a challenge related to open data, on which they have been working since October 2024, and will propose ways to address it by public administrations.
Objectives of the Encounter
The Encounter aims to promote reflection and debate on the use of open data for the development and progress of society. Specifically, it seeks, on the one hand, for public administration staff to acquire skills and knowledge that allow them to maximize the use and dissemination of open data for the improvement of public policies. On the other hand, it aims to strengthen its widespread use and promote the reuse of this information among various social, economic, and public administration actors.
Since its inception in 2022, each Encounter has focused on a major challenge of current society on which specific proposals are identified and developed to ensure effective use of the information contained in the data, with the ultimate goal of generating a real impact on the development and progress of society.
The three previous editions were jointly organized by the Government of Aragon and the provincial councils of Barcelona and Castellón. The first focused on territorial cohesion and the fight against depopulation. In 2023, the reflection revolved around the dissemination and reuse of open data to combat climate change. The transformation and strengthening of tourism were the central themes of the 2024 Encounter.
